CZ Scorpion - Range update post #14

I have been toying with the idea of picking up a CZ Scorpion Evo 3 recently and finally said to heck with it and sucked it up and got one.

I was kicking around whether I wanted to spend the dough on one, but finally decided that life was too short to worry about a few dollars. I have ordered a folding FDE brace for it and a few 30 round mags.

My first impression is that it is a quality gun. Tomorrow I am going out and run a couple hundred rounds through it to give it a little break in and report back with my take on the handling. I'm sure it will be quite different with the brace, but even though it should be here by early next week, I really don't want to wait for it to show up

Not living in a free state, I have the carbine Evo. Worst stock trigger of any gun I've ever owned. I did a full Shooters Element upgrade to the trigger and never looked back.

Be thankful you don't have a freaking fin grip on yours.

Yeah the trigger doesn't feel all that great. After I put a few hundred rounds through it, I'm going to install the HBI spring kit I ordered and see how I like it.

The CZC trigger is awesome - but pricey. They replace the trigger shoe, disconnector and sear as well as swapping out the old springs for the HBI spring kit. The kit eliminates all the creep and over travel and gets rid of the horrible 12 lb trigger pull. The Timney trigger is also good, but I think it has/had some issues. Timney has temporarily pulled it and are redesigning something. I have one for one of my Scorpions, but I haven't shot it yet.

Here is my gun porn addition to your thread.

This one started life as a braced micro Scorpion Evo 3 with the Fauxsprey. I bought it from CZC and had them do the trigger job before I picked it up. I replaced the R hand safety knob the the HBI blank. I also replaced the mag release and pistol grip with HBI parts. Then I filed a form 1. Once the Form 1 was approved, I had it engraved and stocked it. I shot it in some steel matches and did really well with it. And that should have been it.

Buuut, I found a 9mm Osprey for sale at a ridiculous price. A gun dealer in TX was going out of business and I picked it up, NIB, for less than $500. So, I replaced the short HBI hand guard with a longer, 6" version and replaced the Faux Osprey with the real deal.

Edit: I will never figure out how to size photos for this board. They always turn out gigantic or minuscule. LOL

I had the timney and it wouldn’t reset consistently. Sent it back and they did something to it and it worked fine. Made it a completely different gun because that trigger is terrible from the factory and the timney was a really nice trigger.

That trigger looks like it might be just the ticket. I can't help but think that a reduced power hammer spring might help with the stock trigger pull.

How the heck can you afford it?....... . Not the Evo, but the “couple of hundred rounds” that you want to run through it. . Sorry for yet another Yak-Yak on the current cost of ammo.

I reload and have a couple thousand rounds saved up. I try not to shoot my factory ammo unless I have to.

                            Update

The extra magazines, HB Industries trigger kit and the Holosun RDS I ordered dribbled in over the last few days along with the SB Tactical brace I ordered the day I brought the Scorpion home. Since I finally had all the bits and pieces for it I went out to the desert today to run a couple hundred rounds through it and test out my home brewed the trigger job.

First off let me say that while it isn't a match trigger, it is very smooth and breaks at around 4-4.5 pounds, which is pretty much exactly what I was trying to achieve. I really don't see where it is necessary to buy an expensive trigger when the stock unit can be made quite a bit better with just a little work and the $8 HB Industries spring kit. The only other thing I did besides install the HBI springs was to polish the sear surface on the hammer with a fine Arkansas stone. The trigger and hammer on the Scorpion is basically the same as an AK and while the pull is a bit long it breaks clean and the reset is crisp.

So far I really like the Holosun and I hope it turns out to be durable. Because I was waiting for the various parts show up, today was the first time I shot the Scorpion since I bought it a few days ago. This is a very nice shooting firearm and once I sighted in the Holosun, it was quite easy to hit milk jug targets out to 100 yards with regularity.

Normally I expect recoil operated PCC type guns to have a kind of sharp recoil pulse from the heavy bolt, I found the Scorpion to be much smoother than I had anticipated. I ordered a few CZ 30 round magazines and tried them out along with a couple of different types of 9mm ammo I had around and as expected, all the magazines functioned flawlessly with zero malfunctions.

All in all, I am pleased with it and I will probably make this one of my go to camping guns along with my Savage 99.

The profile of the stock CZ sights are too low to work with the optical sight, but the RDS is quick detachable so if I have to take it off for some reason I can do it easily. Eventually I am probably going to change them out to something that will co-witness with the Holosun, but right now that isn't a priority.

Various targets shot at 25 and 50 yards after I sighted it in. I sighted it so that it is centered at 25 yards. The rest was using Kentucky windage and elevation. The one on the far right was what I call a cadenced rapid fire at fifty yards off a rest. The middle was at 25 yards offhand and the one on the left was slow fire from a rest at 50 yards.

Off hand at 50 yards, slow fire.

It fits nicely in the briefcase I use for my Uzi. I think it looks like a neat way to transport it around.
