In 2006, the CA legislature passed it and Gov Schwarzenegger signed it.
It was suppose to go into effect on 01-01-2007, but it did not because of the way it was written it could not go into effect until all patents associated with microstamping technology became unencumbered in 2025 or when the CA AG certifies that technology is feasible and not covered under any patents.
CA AG Harris certified microstamping on 05-17-2013, which caused the microstamping requirement to go into effect on that date.
No handgun that has a microstamping array has ever been listed on the CA Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale or has ever been made and sold in the USA.
In 10-2013, the Armatix iP1 was listed on the CA Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale.
The Armatix iP1 was a "smartgun" that did not have a microstamping array, was made in Germany, and imported into the USA.
It had been submitted for testing prior to the microstamping requirement became active and was listed after all of it's "smartgun" elements were finally approved for importation for commercial sale to the USA.
