Glock CCW - Compact or SubCompact

I want to come to the dark side but I can't decide on the compact or the subcompact model. I won't say the caliber except it is not .45ACP or 10mm. Is the extra finger worth it? Please, no caliber discussion. Just frame length.

you cannot go wrong with the g19 or g26. if you get a glock, get 9mm thats what they were made to shoot.

Shoot em both first. Recoil doesn't effect me unless i'm running through a couple K rounds. The extra finger might help with the .40 cal (23,27) just because that is a snappy round. I'm a 9mm (17,26)guy, i'd rather have 20 little buddies with quick follow up shots.

For CCW... get the sub compact... g19 is still too big for my taste to carry on a daily basis but that's just me.

For daily carry i'd look for the slimline glocks. I hear they make those now.

I've carried concealed the compact sized (even though it's marketed as a "subcompact", it's closer to the size of the compact sized Glocks than the subcompact sized Glocks) Glock 30. It conceals well 90% of the time.

However, last year, I did pick up the subcompact sized Glock 39, because there were times the Glock 30 was too big to effectively carry concealed due to clothing (t-shirt/shorts/sandals).


There is only one slimline Glock and that's the Glock 36.

For CCW get a 5-shot "J" frame S&W airweight. I've been a CCW holder for 10 yrs now and I have tried them all. I loved Glock-26 and it was my carry piece for two years and I tell you it's bulky, heavy and needs special holster to carry it around for 18 hrs a day So ended always either on my car or home were it doesnt belong. For civilian purpose a airweight makes sense because its light and no special holster needed. Just drop them on your front pocket. The key is having it with you all the time and this can only be with a 15.2oz airweight.

I just got a G23 and it's a bit too big for CCW IMO, the G26 or G27 is even a bit bulky compared to the Kahrs and Kel-Tecs, but the Glock trigger is way better than the Kahr and Kel-Tec, and has a better aftermarket if you want to change some things. My vote would be for the Sub-Compact. If your in the LA area come by and try my G23 and see for yourself

FWIW I am of the Clint Smithian mindset: If you're CCWing and pull out a firearm, pull out a big firearm, like a 1911, Glock 21, or K frame. Carrying a firearm is not supposed to be comfortable and you need to dress accordingly and have the proper mindset about it. But a small one is better than none and I would carry the smallest, largest caliber I can shoot accurately. Another Clintism: two is one, one is none-so if you need a firearm you need to carry two...

The Glock 19 and 23 are the perfect CCW pistols. The G26 and 27 are to small for IWB carry due to the abbreviated grips (It's difficult to rapidly and securely draw them using a IWB holster) The 19 and 23 are as I said the perfect combination of firepower and size for IWB holster carry.

I'm not a big guy, and I've carried a mid sized Glock (19 or 23) for the past 15 years every day with no problems due to the size of the pistol.

The difference between the baby glocks and the subcompact is roughly 1/2" shorter on length and height. But, if you add the finger extender on the baby glock magazine you just added 1/2" to your height. In that case, I would go with the G19/23.
