Need help deciding... Another standard 19 or 19L?!

Alright looking to finally splurge and build my first race gun. Mostly going to see general range use, maybe some local weekend matches for fun. If I go standard 19 length maybe even go on my CCW renewal.

But, I’m trying to figure out where to start. I’m going to go full race build with RMR, custom barrel and slide and probably stipple. I love the sight length of my 17, but love the size of my 19’s. 17 has way too much extra frame for my little hands.

But, do I want to buy a 17, have the frame cut to a 19 length?
Or do a standard 19 with a 19L conversion slide and barrel?
Or just do a standard 19 size and length? Which again would leave the option to go on my CCW license?

So what are your opinions? Again I’m running an RMR so barrel length isn’t going to make it or break it. But looks wise for a race gun I feel like it would look cleaner. But if I ever remove the RMR I would have that extra sight length.

Last time I ran my 17 and switched half way through the match to my 19 my scores took a dump. So that extra 1” makes a massive difference as far as accuracy on standard sights.

Well what do you guys think and why?

Edit: Dam it I forgot to add a pole

End goal. General look I’m looking at for the build.

Take into consideration I already have a 17, 17RTF, 23 Gen4 and a 19. Also a couple 1911’s, 22, Shield and a GP100 wheel gun. So I’m pretty much well rounded as far as a full side or compact. But I don’t have a race gun as of yet. But enjoy my guns I have now as is. I’d rather add a race gun than make one out of my current pistols.

In my experience, the Gucci cool gun builds have more of a following on reddit or other platforms. Good luck tho. I’m sure someone will come out to help.

Your gun. Keep us posted on your progress and post some pics when your done, or think your done. Projects like that often have a change in plans.

You already said you shoot a 17 better, so if you want a shortened grip, I vote that platform.

            WTB used AK MFER.

              As Gucci as it gets:

And you'll need one of these.

Personally, I prefer the G45 configuration. The longer grip = more rounds in a free state and, frankly, its no more difficult to conceal the longer grip. (I'm 5' 9" with a 35-38" waist, and carry OWB with a L or XL shirt or tee shirt and no one ever knows I'm carrying.)

                  I like my G17 and I have a G19 too.

What I am thinking is a G34 and eventually a TTI John Wick Combat Master. One of the members has a John Wick G34 for sale here. I am seriously considering it. Everyone should have a 'legendary' pistol, JMHO

I have the brownells 19ls slide and can say it's rad. There is an extra half ounce or ounce of weight but that weight hangs out front and points well imo. The recoil is slightly tamer. I do wish brownells had more aggressive chamfering on the nose of the slide like they do on their 26 and 34 slides.

If you wanted bassically something stock, I would have suggested just get a 19L slide for your current 19 or 23....but since you want to gucci it out, you'd have more options with a standard 17 slide, so I vote 17 with a grip chop

A 17 with a cut grip length of a 19 is the way I'd go if you like the longer sight radius, but with an RMR it's not going to matter. I did the same and made a 26L out of a 19 frame and now have a front light rail.

                          Thanks for the replies.

I’m looking for a compact size because the compact fits my hands. A full size frame does no benefit to me besides the longer slide. My small hands fit on a 17 as they do a 19.. Again just added wasted frame out the bottom with the 17.

And yea that’s where I’m stumped. Longer slide is nice for shooting off standard sights. But I’m going to run a RMR. So it kind of makes me think it negates the fact of needing the longer slide. But then makes me wonder which would look better/more proportionate.
