    Beretta 21A

Just bought a Beretta 21A pistol in 22 lr. Quick question, can't find a definite answer - I see mags listed for the "21A" and just "21". What's the difference, can I use 21s, which are more plentiful and I see offered by MecGar rather than the 21A, which aren't so available and mage by ProMag. (:

I have a 950 in 22 lr and know there's a difference between the 950 and 950BS mags, wondering if the same applies to the 21.

    AFAIK...

It was always the Model 21A.
There was no plain 21 version.
The Model 21A was a product improved version of the Model 20.

Beretta USA markets magazines for the Beretta Model 21A as "Beretta 21 Bobcat magazines".

      Got it, thanks.

      MecGar mags @ $18.49 vs ProMag @ $16.99 - no contest.

Great pistol, but a little ammo sensitive. Don't get discouraged if you have some failure to feeds or discharge, just move on to another brand until you find what works. We've had the best luck with CCI and federal match, although other types also work. Worst was federal bulk hv.

Nothing to add to the mag question because it's already answered.

        Enjoy your new pistol

I hope by that you mean no contest with Mec-Gar the winner. Even though they cost a little more Mec-Gar magazines are superior to ProMag magazines. Mec-Gar magazines are OEM for Beretta.

Mec-Gar is the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of a variety of popular factory magazines for brands including Beretta, FN Browning, Charles Daly, Colt, CZ, Kel-Tec, Kimber, Remington, Smith & Wesson, STI, Taurus & Walther.
          Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

            FYI

            They love stingers, and don't rack the slide to chamber a round;
load 6 in the mag, and tip up the barrel to add the 7th round.

Remember this gun does not have an extractor, if you try and extract a live round, it won't come out so be carefull about leaving a live round in it. To extract a live round, flip the barrel up. If it doesnt fall out because the chamber is dirty, you have to poke it out with something down the barrel. Or shoot it.

Love the 21A. I have it in .25 ACP. Fun little shooter.

I would heartily agree with this. Mecgar is great.

You can usually get a fingernail into the feed ramp and pop the round out.

Also be advised that the 21a comes in two calibers, .22 LR and .25 ACP. The mags may not be interchangeable although I guess I could check since I have both. The .25 ACP version is quite rare, and no I’m not confusing it with the 950, which also comes in two calibers. Also it is quite finicky about ammo. Must have high quality HV ammo (mine insists on Stingers) and also insists on very clean chamber due to extractorless design. Dirty chamber can mean stuck empty case and you will need something (like a 3 inch nail) to push out the case. Fun gun but a but cranky.

I bought one of these to carry as a backup when I was working patrol. I kept it in a pocket in the kevlar vest. I figured if it ever went off during a fight the vest would keep the stinger round out of me. I foolishly sold it when I retired. Interesting little gun.

bought this back in the day and a few years later got the tomcat as well...love them both and i regret selling them. just the other day i was at barnes and noble doing some magazine reading and came across the suppressed bobcat...sooo sexy! i think it was tactical life or combat firearms magazine.

I got a .25 to carry, figuring a centerfire would be more reliable when it counts. I checked around recently to pick up another one - 500 bucks! I think I paid 225 or maybe less when I bought it.

Had 6 at one time, bought them new many years ago for $95 ea. Sold a few for 650 each earlier this year.

Every so often Beretta ran specials on mags , that’s when I stocked up.

Keep it clean, lubed , like quality ammo.
