This topic should be discussed more because there is alot of other uses for other hand shooting.

How would you go about shooting someone in the back seat of your car, like if you were an Uber Driver and had some one trying to kill you? Right Handed Shooter.

Well, you use your left hand hold and sight with your right eye. with the gun up near your face, but far enough out so you don't get smacked with the slide.

Same if you've got to shoot the guy in the front passenger seat except you'd use your left eye in that case.

How about close quarters, shooting the guy who is trying to pull you out the window Drivers window, right hand hold, with the muzzle far enough in front of your face so you don't get the blast. Probably no sighting in that case. point,,, shoot.

I saw an article in some gun mag about a class that was being taught by some women that showed all the different methods they had developed for close quarter gun manipulation and all of it worked perfectly. I started practicing it while watching TV at night.

I practice it in my living room sitting in my chair with my SIRT Training Pistol. You should all have one as they are the closest thing to shooting you can get with immediate feedback with the laser. For developing and maintaining your grip and sight alignment they are the most helpful tool I have.

Also having quick access to your firearm in a car or seated position with either hand is the best argument for Appendix Carry out there.

I appendix carry always. Best position for any situation.
I use a Mantis X10. I have a RangeTech shot timer for the range.
I practice with both hands and work on my draw-to-first-shot accuracy.

I've tried a few shots on occasion weak side. And a mag swap. But that was only a few shots.

I've tried AR and bolt action on the bench weak side, open sight and scoped. That was easier. Never tried it one armed from any other position though.

Never tried shotgun; all my shotgunning has been on trap/skeet/sporting clays. I do not see a way to do that. From a defensive standpoint, you may be able to prop a shotgun on a wall, counter, car etc. Working a pump would be challenging.

Same eye. If ever in a situation where I must use weak hand, it would not benefit me to switch eyes.

How much weak side training is appropriate for the average non- LEO?

I think anyone who might use a handgun for self defense should train shooting with their support hand. Folks should know which eye is dominant. If it's your right eye and your right handed, sight alignment is simple.

If you then move the gun to your support side hand. You have just created a cross dominant situation. You can compensate by moving your head, your hands or cant the pistol to bring the sights to the dominant eye.

THIS is the right way to shoot. Let your brain choose the eye to aim with.

You will find that you will automatically present the front sight to your dominant eye, just don't fight it.

Right-handed, right-eye dominant. I use my left eye for weak-hand shooting.

Over the years, I had to do support hand (weak hand ) shooting during qualifications and when competing in PPC ( Police Pistol Combat) matches. In PPC , shooter is required to shoot weak side at 25 and 50 yards. Also trained in shooting weak side shotgun and patrol rifle. Challenging stuff. I still use my dominant eye when shoot pistol using support hand. I don't switch eyes at all with a pistol. Weak side shotgun and rifle, I just do the best I can . Whatever works. Lol. PS. I am also trained to shoot a pistol with both eyes open.

I do the same. My eye dominance is mild, though.
