New trigger pull gauge, ooops !!

No I didn't have an AD

My new gauge only goes up to 8 pounds, and the double action factory trigger pull on a couple of my S&W revo's is WAY over that.

On the plus side, the trigger pull on my 627 is 6 pounds, and 8 pounds on my 617.

My Para comes in at 2.5, and my Kidd 10/22 at 2.

What numbers are you guys seeing?

I was looking at precision force gauges since we’re going to be disposing a few units soon. I’m just uncertain if the reading in lb/ft is really applicable for how I’d use it to measure a trigger.

In the meantime I simply have a small priority mail box with some coat hanger hot glued to the center. I fill it with live ammo or anything with weight. Once it trips my triggers I just measure the final or goal weight of the box, which is my trigger weight.

Lightest trigger I have is my Walther Q5 Match SF at 2.52 lbs. Heaviest is my Beretta 92D at 8.67lbs. AR is 2.03lbs (Geissele National Match), and my AI in 338 comes out to 1.27lbs. All measured using the weighted container method.

I stand on a bathroom scale with the with trigger pressed, and once again without pressing the trigger. Subtract the difference.

This one of the reasons I love my Smitty 638. Trigger is at a around 12 pounds in DA, and then around 2-3lbs. when cocked.

I've only ever fired one revolver, a 626 357 my brother owns. I was shocked at the very high force needed to pull the trigger. I think that will keep me away from wheel guns.

Is it hard to use these gauges on a flat trigger? Position would be important I assume the hook would need to be in the center of the trigger.

What brand and type of gauge do you have? I see a Wheeler and Lyman gauge on the Midway site.

You want the hook wherever the center of your trigger finger sits.

Not really sure why I need to know what a given gun's trigger weight is, unless I'm gunsmithing and guaranteeing a certain pull weight to my customers.

Then again, I qualify with my DAO wheelgun all weak hand.
