The Desert Eagle (in .44Mag) is on the DOJ list until 7/19/2007 so you're good to go at least until then. Now whether or not they re-submit to keep it on the list after that, who knows.

If you get one locally and do a private-party transfer, it doesn't matter whether it's on the DOJ approved list or not.

There's a little springy dohickey added into the firing mechanism so the gun would pass the drop test.

Haven't had enough time at home to tinker with mine (yet).

I think Grammaton76 mentioned it a while back with info on replacing the parts in question.

For lack of a better technical description of the parts..... "the little springy dohickey gizmo thing on the back".

Probably best to contact Grammaton directly about this, for some reason his name keeps coming to mind. I am pretty sure he was the one who posted the info on how to replace the CA-safety parts.

As for converting between calibers, it's still just a matter of swapping out the barrels, magazine & bolt assembly.

To change the .44Magnum MkXIX to .50AE, you swap out the .44Mag barrel for the .50AE barrel and use the .50AE magazine.

To switch from .44Mag to .357Mag you need a new barrel, the .357Mag bolt assembly and the .357Mag magazines.

If you luck out and track down a .440Corbon barrel, all you need is the barrel assembly and the .50AE magazines.

I am sorry, but why remove the extra safety? Can I leave the extra safety and insall the conversion? Thanks. I am gonna look for a 50ae barrel now.

The extra parts on the CA version DE don't have anything to do with swapping out calibers.

After doing a bit of searching, it wasn't Grammaton who pointed out this info (even though he was in the thread).

The CA only model has 3 holes in firing pin stop. One for firing pin (Big hole), one for plunger (medium size) and one for roll pin (small). All other state models have one hole for firing pin.

Disassemble the slide from frame per insructions. Remove firing pin stop plate. Remove roll pin. Remove L-shaped spring from left side. Remove Plunger and plunger spring.

In the picture the L-shaped spring is mangled. But it is placed like yellow drawing inside firing pin stop plate and help by roll pin. When the plunger is depressed by hammer the upper portion of L-shaped spring moves to left and frees firing pin. Hammer continues and strikes firing pin.

On mine the roll pin was shattered and the L-shaped spring was out of place and kept interfering with firing pin no matter where the plunger was.

I believe that Magnum Research did this to pass CA drop test.

As you can see in the diagram the part no. 24 has only one hole.

My firing pin has notch cut in to accomodate L-shaped spring. I haven't seen other state's pin yet. But I am sure it's different.
