    Changed my mind

So, my renewal for my LTC is coming up and I was planning on adding my Charter Arms old school Off Duty to my permit. I was having problems with my holsters even though I put in the spurless DAO hammer.

But, I still wanted something a little lighter than what I'm carrying now and since I sold my Sig P365 to my brother the hunt was on. A few days ago I came across another member selling a Kahr CW9 with 3 magazines, night sights, and an Alien Gear holster for $400.

I met up with him this morning and started the transfer process. Here's a picture form his ad, I forgot to snap a couple of shots before I left the store.

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I’ve only shot the CW9 a few times, but I definitely liked it - I personally like the Kahr triggers. I recall it was easy for me to shoot well, far more accurate than I am. Great choice, and should be an easy carry.

I've heard those have reliability problems. Get Glock.

I’m not a fan of the trigger. But if you’re used to revolvers, it should be fine.

Just train with it and make sure it’s reliable.

If I decided to get a polymer Kahr (already have a K40), I’d get the PM9.

I have two CW9s for the wife and I---both run 100% with any ammo I have tried and both shoot right to point of aim for me. My friend gave me a OWB leather holster for one and I had a small size Galco fanny pack where the other lives with two extra magazines. They are slimmer than most and lighter than most---I don't have a problem with the trigger as these are self defense guns, not target guns... The PM9 grip is just too small for me... My house gun is an HK P2000SK with light LEM trigger, so all three defense pistols are DAO---no thinking about operating the gun---just point at problem and cycle trigger---keeps things simple for wife too...

The first handgun I bought myself was a nickle plated 586. I've been shooting revolvers for over 30 years. I know about the long double action trigger and I'm good with it. I've also carried and shot well with a Sig P290 and still have a DAO 380 with a long trigger pull on my permit that I train with.

All of those images are from bullet setback, and it can happen with any cartridge (although it's most common with .40 from my understanding).

Setback is a serious thing with some cartridges... and it'll turn any gun into a literal hand-grenade if you don't pay attention.

It has nothing to do with Glock, or the design of the gun.

Yeah, but if you look at the images of Kahrs that have blown up they are nowhere near as bad as what happens to a Glock when it blows up.

The first several have massive holes where the grip used to be... and where your hand would have been. The others have metal frames, apples & oranges.

Regardless, setback has nothing to do with the gun, it's the cartridge. Get something less prone to setback like a 9mm if you're paranoid. When I load up my .40, I just glance at each bullet to make sure it "looks right"... does the trick well enough.

I have no comment on the Kahar as I don't own one. I do have Glocks and yes in 40 S&W. I reload and buy factory ammo. I've not had a single instance of bullet setback in my guns or this cartridge.

You can induce the set back if you consistently chamber the same cartridge by running the slide to chamber off the magazine.
So for those who want to run the same self defense ammo in one magazine.

It’s quite common to chamber off the magazine and when making clear taking that same cartridge and placing back on top of the loaded magazine.

Not everyone understands how easy it is to do with factory loaded ammunition.

A nickel plated 586 is my revolver of choice as well. First time I shot one was at the police academy. Can't seem to find one here though in California. Hope you still have yours and hope you enjoy the Kahr. Congrats on your new buy!

I wish I still had it. I went through a tough time and sold all but two guns. I have since rebuilt my collection but that is not one that I've been able to replace.

Though I do have a really nice model 19-4 that has done great as a fill in.

If you really think that a Kahr Is more reliable than Glock, I suggest you do some research. The statistics and facts absolutely speak for themselves. Millions of users all over the globe trust Glock everyday. It's the best handgun in the world bar none.
