This is going to be hard to describe so bare with me.
Many years ago I was at a friends house and his Dad was showing me some of his pistols. He said, 'This is one of my favorites', and I can't for the life of me remember what brand or model it was. It was a black semi-auto, full size service pistol. It 'may' have been a 1911 platform, but was def. not a polymer/striker fire of any type.
I remember he said, "This is what I like about it the most", and he proceeded to caulk the hammer back, then reset it down towards the firing block/pin. Then he said it was still 'hot' . . . (forgive my poor terminology). He said that he had a very good gunsmith do this modification for him so that when he carried, people wouldn't see that the hammer was back. I specifically remember him saying, "Some people don't like seeing that". But the pistol was ready to fire.
It was NOT a de-cocker, like on a Sig/ HK etc. I've been racking my brain on how that would work, like some type of pre-loaded, double spring mechanism or something?
