    Taurus Judge

Is there anyway to own a Taurus Judge in California?

I've got a friend that has a judge. It was her brother-in-laws gun. Her husband is decease and received the gun from his brother who is out of state. I hope that's easy to follow.

She offered to sell the gun to me, but I don't see anyway of making this work. The gun was given to her husband by his brother and no paperwork was completed.

The Judge is considered a Short Barreled Shotgun in CA and not legal unless you are exempt (law enforcement or other).

Yes, an out of state type 07 FFL with an 03 SOT can convert it to single action and add a foregrip to it. It will then be registered with the NFA as an AOW. Once it is an AOW it can be transferred to a willing CA FFL with a SOT. You will transfer it as a revolver via CA DROS and will also complete a Federal form 4 for transfer with the NFA. It will be expensive and prob take over a year, but once done, it is exempt from CA SBS laws.

Please see penal code 17710 for the AOW exemption from PC 16590 and 33215.

I dodn't think LEO's or anyone else is "exempt" from CA SBR/SBS laws.

And only a select few will qualify for a CA DW Permit that's required to get a SBS in CA.

        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

This state is a mess. I would have no idea how to do all the above, let alone walk somebody else through it.

What is the offense if you're caught with a gun like this? I wouldn't want to own it other than by a legal method, just curious.

If this all seems confusing to you, and you like guns...

Imagine what the police officer who is "just doing their job" will think of what you will tell them.

AOW, NFA, Exempt, single action, etc....

Uh huh - Let the lawyers and the judge figure it out, you're under arrest for having a short barrel shotgun.

ATF will not approve those transfers into CA anymore, been there and done that. So instead of waiting a year to get your gun, you will wait a year to find out the transfer was denied and get your money back.

I'd try again the following year.
