    Glock 22 vs Glock 23

I got rid of my Glock 27 and was thinking about getting a Glock 22 or 23 to learn on. Will having a bigger frame and barrel make a difference with recoil control and for building better marksmanship skills for a new shooter?

I like how the G19 fits in my hands so I was thinking maybe the G23.

Realistically it’s best to learn on a big gun so I’d recommend getting the 22 or 17.

Go for the G-22. Will be more pleasant to shoot.

I'm not a fan of the 22. They don't shoot any softer than a 23, the grip is just larger. If you're going full size, go actually full size with a 35.

Even a 23 is a big difference from the 27. 23's are fun to shoot.

I would go with the G22. The longer sight radius will help with building better skills as a new shooter. It does weight 2 oz more so the extra weight gives a slight advantage in recoil control but it may not be enough to notice.

If possible, I would find a range that rents them to compare them or find someone that would let you shoot theirs. What is more important is what fits your hands more comfortably. The G22 has a wider grip and if you have smaller hands it may be harder for you to hold on to.

I do not have a .40 cal Glock so I have nothing to compare it to. I have large hands for my size (I am 5'7") and I need to add the small backstrap with the beavertail on my gen 4 G17 in order for it to fit comfortably to my hand. I use the large backstrap on my gen 4 G19.

If the G22 is to large for your hand then it will not be a good gun to learn with. So ultimately, you need to shoot both of them and see which one works best for you.

I made that mistake, my first was a gen 3 G19 and it was too small for my hand. If I would have tried them out before I bought, I would have bought a G17.
Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.

A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.

Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

            I haven’t shot the 22 but I have shot the 17, 19, and 23.

The G23 isn’t bad for what it is but still quite a bit a recoil to manage. Not like the 27 that’s for sure.

Are there any local ranges you can try out before committing to a model?

.40 has more recoil than 9MM

To learn I would start with 9MM.

              So my answer is Neither.

              Get a Glock 17

              Be well

Handle them both at the gun shop and see which one feels better to you. Other than that the slight differences in dimensions should not matter that much. Some people overthink this but the burden should be on the shooter, not the gun.

Are you picking 40sw due to ammo availability?

                  I’m in neither camp also

How about G20? You can shoot 40sw now and later on 10mm auto

Or G34 with longer slide and 9mm Luger

Or g35 if you really want 40sw dedicated gun

                    I prefer the full-size frame to the compact frame - 17/22 > 19/23

Of course the correct answer would be G20! (because it will still shoot .40)

either one will serve you well. The g22 will be a little easier to control at first, but if you get a G23 and start with it you'll be fine by the time you can actually control the gun. Your grip, and how fast it actually comes together, will be the deciding factor.

This will take time and alot of shooting to develop the muscle Memory needed to shoot consistently.

I would suggest a Defensive Handgun Course at Front Sight to get you pointed in the right direction. Without proper Basic Instruction on the fundamentals it will take much longer to figure this out.

                        G22 is easier to handle than G23, but I own a G35, G23 and G27.

I'd go with the 23 as it's a nice compromise between the 27 and 22.

Also, it's best to use a 40 frame and slap on a 9mm barrel or upper, but I've heard it's not good to use a 9mm frame for 40 conversion....something about the 9mm frame not meant to handle repeated use of the 40.
