Well I finally got out to shoot the Steyr M40 that I bought on the 12th.
(First of all do I have a problem if I dig around in my ammo cabinet and find two boxes of 40S&W ammunition, considering that I've never owned a 40S&W gun before?)
Anyway, I set up a target frame at 7 yards and found out that not shooting a pistol for 2 years makes you a lousy shot. The recoil was milder than I thought for such a light gun, probably because the gun has such a low bore height. After two magazines of ammo it was no problem holding ten rounds inside of 2-3 inches in about 10-12 seconds.
I moved the target frame out to 20 yards and shooting supported over the bed of my truck I had no problem dropping all 10 rounds into 3". The trapezoid (triangular) sight picture was a little uncomfortable at first but at longer ranges it seemed faster zeroing in on smaller targets than a regular post front sight. I'm going to leave these sights on for now and see if I continue to like shooting over them in different conditions.
I went through 100 rounds in about 20 minutes without a fail to feed, or eject and I didn't feel like I had shot that much. So far this little gun is impressing me, I enjoyed shooting it alot.
The gun cleaned up really easily at home, a little Butch's Boreshine and half a dozen patches and the bore was immaculate.
