My experience was very good. I purchased my P228 from them, we discussed what to do with the high cap mags, I had them shipped up to WA to be placed in my fun box along with a bunch of other goodies.
Gun was shipped the next day.
I was very pleased with the transaction.
I would order from them again

I like Bud's and would do business with them again in a heartbeat. Their prices are very competitive. Only once have they made a mistake on an order of mine, which they fixed at their own expense as you would expect from a legit business. They do run a bit shorthanded at times especially during rush periods. This helps keep their overhead low so that you can get a good price, but it means you have to be patient with them sometimes. I have no problem with that. I've never been disappointed doing business with Bud's.

Having said that, I will add a few caveats. When you order, make sure you know what you want. They charge a restocking fee if you decide you want the wood grip model after you ordered the rubber grip model online. When you think about it, this makes perfect sense. The whole purpose of the online ordering system is to relieve their personnel shortage. When you goof up, or change your mind, you totally screw that and end up costing them MORE man hours. That's why they charge the extra restocking fee for "mistakes" and changes of mind (IMHO).

I've bought probably a half-dozen firearms from them over the years, and each experience has been better than the last. They do know CA law. They will do their bit if you do yours. Just don't go online there half-monkey-butt, screw up your order and then expect them to spend the time to sort it all out and you walk off scott free - it don't work like that. Too many people surfing the internet drunk these days with credit cards in their hand.

I'm a fan of Buds but you have to understand who and what your dealing with. Buds is a super high volume dealer that sells at rock bottom prices and makes their money strictly on volume. They are not a full service shop (but they own one). I've bought three rifles from them and I'm a happy customer. As long as you understand the trade-offs going in it's a good place to shop - but anyone that can't deal with those trade-offs should probably shop elsewhere.

            Pluses:
            • Absolutely the lowest price on guns and accessories 95% of the time. The major exception seems to be Ruger and Browning 22s.
            • A history of taking care of customer complaints.

            Minuses:
            • Slow to ship, most weapons take at least 3-5 business days to ship.
            • All prices are for cash or check, credit cards are plus 3%.
            • Primitive inventory system (post-it notes?), they may run out before the site gets updated.

As a general observation you're dealing with very bright and eager "good old boys" and they will bend over backward to make well mannered and polite customers happy. On the other hand especially rude and obnoxious Yankees have occasionally found them a bit frustrating.

My one and only hiccup was when they turned out to be out of stock on the rifle I'd ordered. They contacted me right away and offered a full refund or I could wait. I elected to wait and they stayed in touch. When they still couldn't get their hands on one 6 weeks later they offered a free upgrade to a much more expensive rifle for my trouble and patience. Needless to say I jumped on it.

Good experience here, but sometimes hard to get someone on the phone to ask question.

I purchased a Sig 226 from them about a month back. No problems at all.

The Sig was a CPO and I couldn't figure out if it was the railed or non-railed version. Given the price, I didn't care, so I placed my order online.

After ordering, I emailed them and asked if the Sig had the rail. They replied the next day letting me know that it did not and asked if I wanted to cancel. I chose to keep the order.

I would have no problems ordering from them again, but this is just my experience.

I'm about to place an order with them so this thread is helpful. What additional costs should I expect on the CA end? DOJ fees, check. FFL handling, check. Are FFL now the state's tax collector?

I have used them twice (Springfield 1911 trophy match & Ruger 10/22 target) and had great service.

Shops usually charge between $50 and $150 including DOJ fees and are supposed to collect sales taxes. $60-75 is about average. What some of the sneaky ones do is charge a $50 transfer fee, and $100 storage fee, plus the DOJ fees and taxes. It's worth your time to call around.
