Shield Vs. Sig P365
Tags: None -
I owned the Shield and my Dad gave me his Sig 365 SAS. I had too many functions with my Shield to ever depend on one again. Personally.
I think the clear winner is the 365, because of the trigger, the additional 3-5 rounds, the sights, ergonomics and accuracy (over the shield for me). You could even swap out the FCG and put it in an XL frame.
You really can’t go wrong either way, especially since you already liked the Shield. The shield is going to be noticeably slimmer and a heck of a lot cheaper. Unless your are LEO, you’re looking at a $440 Shield and $1400+ for the 365.
Now for the outside of the two guns: Springfield Hellcat OSP. Better than both the shield and sig 365. I just prefer the sights, optics plate, flat trigger and cheaper magazines compared to the sig. 1000 rounds and not one failure. -
My wife went through the same choices -- after trying quite a few options, she was down to the Shield, P365(XL or not) and the Hellcat OSP with Shield optic.
Ended up with the P365 XL "grip module" with the P365 slide and she prefers the Swampfox Sentinel optic because of its feature set. Carry trigger job by the Sig Armorer, and XL grip module by Lakeside Gripworks.
The Hellcat OSP is more annoying to shoot (not like any of these are as comfortable to shoot as a big, steel 1911 or etc), but otherwise came in 2nd place. She didn't like the polymer on the Shield optic, thought it lacked clarity. You'll probably need an extended mag if your hands are not small.
The P365 XL grip will clear the magazine from your palm (you won't have the problem of mags getting stuck in your palm when you're trying to drop them) if your hands are not small, and makes the recoil more controllable. No need for an extended mag to get a full-fingered grip. The shape of the grip means it's still very concealable -- I have pocket carried it on a number of occasions.

The P365 is smaller than the shield and shoots very soft for its size.
IMHO the hellcat is not in the same league as the P365 dont waste your time there.Last edited by BajaJames83; 11-09-2020, 8:41 PM.NRA Endowment Life Member

Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

OP, if you can get a P365 I would highly recommend it. I have no experience with the Shield but I do with the P365. It's a whole lot of gun in a very small package. And they forgot to tell it that it was a small gun and was to have a ton of felt recoil. It doesn't. It shoots very soft and you'd swear that you were shooting a much bigger gun.Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I had both and sold the shield. I loved that gun and carried it daily for five years, but I'd take the P365 over it any day. For what it is worth, I never had a malfunction with either firearm that I didn't cause. Both are solid and built for the purpose. I find the SIG more concealable and easier to shoot.Comment

I went with Shield for purely economic reasons.
Both handguns are reliable and concealable. Both are accurate, easily controlled and recoil is not an issue.
Where they differ is availability and price, if LEO have to hold my gun for indefinite period of time, I can easily replace Shield, P365 not so much.Comment

performance wise, teh p365xl with carry optics are a tack driver. I can out shoot my CZ shadow 2 (irons) with the little sig. No errors, no mis fires so far (300 rounds). I think I can trust it to do what it needs to do when called upon.Comment

I've owned and carried both for some time. I started with the original Shield and carried it for a few years. Great gun, absolutely no malfunctions and concealed well. No real issues with it, but wasn't 100% satisfied with the circumference/shape of the grip. I found it to be too narrow for my liking and it always bugged me. When the P365 was released I found its grip to be better suited to my liking. I waited for all of the issues to be sorted before I made my purchase and haven't looked back. I've since added a P365XL grip module that has improved the overall grip of the pistol without affecting concealability. My vote is for the P365 if you can find it at a reasonable price.Comment
