    CA 1911

    Hello,
I am looking to get a 1911, when I looked at DOJ roster there were few select models of 1911 on it..
Does the model number have to match exactly?
I did a google search on 1911 CA compliant models and there were many models that werent on the roster.
    I am confused with this
    Anyone can clarify?
    Thanks

I suggest the re-asking the question(s) with more specific brands, models, and calibers as to what 1911 is being considered; and perhaps links to where they're being advertised.

Reposting your list. Search under Armscor, Sig Sauer, Springfield Armory and Dan Wesson. Those are your only practical options left. Note: Not all Sig Sauer parts interchangeable with Mil Spec 1911.

And yes, the sku has to match.

And Kimber and Wilson Combat and Nighthawk and Les Baer and Ed Brown and Strayer Voigt and Auto Ordnance

There are more 1911 on the roster than anything practically. You can also get nearly any 1911 on the roster and have it sent off to be upgraded, customized or converted.

OP why don't you tell us what you are looking for in a 1911 and a price range and we can give some suggestions.

I forgot about the Kimber. And yes, there are those boutique options if OP is looking for a high $ 1911. I have never seen the AO in CA, if available, go for it.

Let's not forget Springfield Armory and their forged 1911s. Springfield makes "entry" level 1911s like the GI milspec and Loaded models which are excellent base guns from which to customize after you've become used to the platform and understand what upgrades to add.

What upgrade would you add to the Springfield Loaded? I'm just curious, thanks.

                    Front strap checkering
                    Undercut
                    Flush cut barrel w/Target crown
Flush cut and countersink the slide stop pin
                    Reliability package
                    One piece guide rod

                    Those would be my minimums

Purchased a Springfield Armory Loaded Target 1911 in 9mm a couple months ago, GREAT GUN!

It's On-Roster too, food for thought.

I'm not the right one to ask as I tend to only keep the slide and frame to have built into a full house custom, but SkyHawk pretty-much nailed it.
If pressed, I'd add to SkyHawk's with:

                        Match barrel
                        Trigger job
                        Oversized mag release
                        Enlarged mag well
                        better sights -or- RMR
                        Full dehorn

Maybe a good plan is pick up solid first 1911 like a Springfield. Solid gun, backed by Springfield Armory good customer service. And get going on finding ammo, and shooting. You can go to their website, there are options to filter out to California models.

If you haven't shot 45 ACP before, a 9mm loaded target might be a good start for the obvious reasons of less recoil, but also cheaper ammo (if you can find it...but really, even low qual ammo is expensive now sadly).

Then if you're digging your 1911, you can upgrade parts, customize, etc. And then you're hooked and you're buying a nighthawk and eating ramen for a year.

If you're not digging the 1911, you sell it or shoot it once in a while. But in reality, you'll probably dig the trigger, the design, the history, the accuracy, and the overall feel.

I took the expensive route: 9mm loaded target, then TRP, then les Baer, then Springfield custom...and now I'm eyeballing those nighthawks and their ca customization program. I hate this situation lol.

One thing though, once get your first 1911 and[ you dig it, make the jump to a high quality 1911. You won't regret it. People will ***** and moan and say their Armscor is just as good after swapping out parts and stuff. Its not the same.

CJ at 1911 Heaven has the LB Premiere II for $1940! Just ignore all the other cool stuff like the 9mm and 10mm 1911s that they sell. That price is not too far off from buying a regular Springfield 1911 (if you send off your 1911 for customization the costs add up rapidly, and the gun still might not be up to snuff and need more work). You can be patient and save up, or stick it on your card, but I think its worth the reach for the Premiere II. You would be getting a no frills, but 100% American made and custom fitted 1911 with an accurate barrel and great trigger....no clowning around and you could get on with good shooting.

Check out olds442guy's les Baer over at 1911 addicts...gorgeously worn gun (great photography too). Here's his thread (mods, delete if not permitted). https://www.1911addicts.com/threads/...5/#post-927049

there is a few 1911s on the roster if you are looking for a cheap one rock island makes one at a affordable price, Springfield makes mid to top tier models along with Sig Sauer and Dan Wesson there is a 1911 a2 i believe that is still on the roster which is a double stack 1911 vs a single stack but unfortunately if you are looking for a colt those are not on the roster
