Ruger lcr or lcrx. My grandma is 70+ has Parkinson and carries a ruger lcr 38+p. I have one in 9mm and 38 and the triggers, while da are easy and smooth. -
The problem with light weight snub nose .38s is that they tend to be VERY hard to shoot well. Maybe a Ruger Sp101 with a 3" barrel instead of a light weight, DA only revolver?NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

The Springfield Armory XDe is a sweet SA/DA hammer fired semiauto. The slide has a 27% decreased effort in slide manipulation.

Working with the Smiths they have, try a spring kit and different grips that allow a better three-finger hold on the gun.
The stock grips look great and feel great, but the gun rotates in your hand with your pinky hanging out in the air.
I've gone to old style original panel type grips on mine.
It's too bad we can't get the Shield EZ here (or easily as the case may be).
The Sig 238 / Colt Mustang .380 have easy slide pulls, especially easy if the hammer is cocked first.
The small grips on these are good for weak hands too.

Why would a Ladysmith trigger be lighter/better than the Airweight they already have?
My wife has a 686+ and the factory trigger was over 12 lbs, past what the trigger pull gauge would measure. I replaced the trigger rebound spring and polished the interior (NOT THE SINGLE ACTION SEAR!) and things dramatically improved. That may be the way to go.
A gun that was on the list is the Sig P238. It's easy to rack, trigger is pretty easy but it is a 380, less firepower than an a 38 special. The ladies would have to learn to dis-engage the safety, something that a revolver doesn't entail. The Bersa Firestorm was also on the list when I left Kalifornia. Easy to rack but it stings to shoot where the Sig is fairly pleasant. Still anemic 380 though.Send Lawyers, Guns and Money - On second thought, hold the Lawyers.Comment

OP
Maybe not the gun, but the grip and finger positions.
I had a similar problem with a 70+ yo woman that wanted to learn to shoot her snubby and the only way she could roll the DA trigger back was to stack both index fingers on the trigger one on top of the other. Simple.
I had to throw the standard trigger pull/grip out the window, but once we found a grip she could safely shoot it with she was solid. Used wad cutters to warm up with.Comment

I know it's not a great solution for this situation but, APEX makes a spring kit for S&W J-Frames that greatly improves the DA trigger pull. I put one in a 442 and it dropped about 3 lbs off the pull (its down to about 8.5 lbs now).

Apex spring kit and an internal polishing by a competent gunsmith if they are stuck with what they bought. Hornady 90g Critical Defense Lite for defense ammo with less recoil. Otherwise...the P238 is a good on roster choice. Oh...and pepper spray. Good luck!Comment

Yep, a lighter trigger return spring will substantially lighten the pull, and is an easy swap in those Smiths.Comment
