XD 40 thoughts

Right on, I'm always curious why folks want more safety's, I usually go for less. Glocks, Kahrs, SIGs etc, heck I even converted my 92FS to a G configuration. For me, the safety is between my ears. There isn't a prize given for the fastest reholster, so that seems like the time to really pay attention to what you are doing and not rely on a mechanical device.

I later shot it single hand(r and l). Slide locked back every time. If I shot two handed, I had to keep my right thumb far from the slide stop. Slide locked back. If I lapsed and went back to regular shooting position, slide would not lock back. I’ve never had this problem in any other gun. The gun has proven to be reliable outside of the slide issue. It happens. I’m keeping the gun.

It was a pretty common occurrence with some new XD shooters. I don’t think about it anymore. But I remember just relaxing that top thumb a bit.

I can shoot a glock just fine but would much rather shoot an xd. Yes, they are underrated and not just a fanboy gun, but a good alternative to glock especially if you like the safeties which work great for me. They make a thicker grip safety in case your grip fails to activate it. My mom had that problem but the aftermarket hadn't come out yet so I tig welded more material on the surface. My xd 40 is a limited 10 competition gun that is all tricked out. It is easy to swap out the slide stop for a version that has a strip a metal a tad higher and sticking out more, making is easier to hit when you want but with more clearance for your grip. https://pistolgear.com/product/pisto...-xd-xdm-black/

I don't think the issue is with the gun. It's with your thumbs. Just my .02
That being said..I love my XD9. It was my first handgun. Picked it up and it just felt right. I've never had any issues with mine. I have a few Glocks too. Just more tools in the tool box. But to you Glock fanboys who say Glock19 is the greatest and the XD9 is crap...shoot a VP9. You'll soon relegate the G19 down to the same level as the XD9 compared to the HK.

I've never had any issues. And I picked the XD in part because of the grip safety. You can easily disengage it when re-holstering. No Glock leg.

Either way you go is going to be the right choice. Just depends on how much time, effort, and possibly money you want to put in figuring it out. Personally, I like the trigger and sights much better on the XD. Mine ran flawlessly when I had it. I sold mine to get large metal frame guns and smaller polymer guns for carry. Good luck!

My XD 40 is my nightstand gun. Reliable and I shoot it well. Wears a light / laser. Great gun.

It’s accurate and reliable with several brands of hollowpoints. It points well for me. It’s a little heavy, but it’s not a problem. I like the grip safety. If I’m limited to 10 rounds, I’m taking the xd40 over the xd9. The 180 gr loads are manageable and some feel closer to 9mm like the Winchester train and defend hp. I stick with rounds close to 400 pounds of energy such as Golden Saber, train and defend, umc hp, pdx1 180gr. All feel better than the faster lighter loads. The hornady critical defence at 500 ft pounds of energy jumped a bit in my hands. I shot what I have. I’ll stick to other loads. The Xd 40 seems to manage the 180 loads well. I’m happy.

I'm with you on the passive grip safety on the striker fired weapon.

If you shoot it enough, you'll get to know the feel of the weapon sufficiently well that you won't need the slide lock to know when you're out. That tends to happen on firearms that see a lot of use anyway.
