Does it not lock back manually with a mag inserted?

Is your thumb riding the slide release when shooting?

Why do you like the grip safety? I prefer the Glock system as there are fewer potential failure points.

Would you ask why he likes the grip safety if it was a 1911?

All I needed was grip tape.
Take it out a few more times than decide.

No, there aren't many reported failures of the 1911 grip safety.

After the election and prices calm down, I'd sell the XD thru an FFL
to someone who likes XDs so you can trade up.

First of all good move on buying a quality firearm. And not falling into the 1911 hype. I have an XD9 and I have not had any of these issues. With that said maybe just have it checked by a qualified gunsmith. There's probably just a minor adjustment that needs to be done.

I've never had any issues. And I picked the XD in part because of the grip safety. You can easily disengage it when re-holstering. No Glock leg.

Right on, I'm always curious why folks want more safety's, I usually go for less. Glocks, Kahrs, SIGs etc, heck I even converted my 92FS to a G configuration. For me, the safety is between my ears. There isn't a prize given for the fastest reholster, so that seems like the time to really pay attention to what you are doing and not rely on a mechanical device.
