    SRO with Astigmatism?

My astigmatism is getting worst fast, just 5 years ago I can still correct it using glasses. Now red dots look like an exploded star even with glasses. Asked my ophthalmologist and he said Lasik probably won't fix what I have which is degenerative something-something. So far my only experience with RDS is on ARs ranging from Vortex, Holosun, Aimpoint and Eotech with all of them looking bad.

I am guessing I'm out of luck for an SRO?

    You need a 1MOA SRO.
    Works flawless

To me anything over 4MOA looks fine. I have a 20/20 vision. But I didn't know I had astigmatism until I got my first red dot.

The SRO red dot won't be any different than an Aimpoint or Holosun red dot. I have astigmatism and the only optics that look perfectly crisp to me are prism scopes.

Gold works better than green, which in turn is better than red, for astigmatism. So maybe try a holosun green or gold dot? Smaller works better for me. I also have a starburst, but with a 2 MOA dot, it’s generally smaller than a front site would be and I can tell where the center rod the dot is.

Everyone's astigmatism is different. What works for me might not work for you and visa versa.

The only way to find out is to look through all the red dots you can find and hopefully you'll find one that works for you.

I know many people that have astigmatism trouble with red dots often find the Holosun HE507C-GR using the green dot and 32 MOA circle reticle works for them for some reason. Try to look through one of those if you can find one. I think as a result of the Trijicon lawsuit, it's now the Holosun HE507C-GR X2.

If that doesn't work, you'll likely be limited to scopes and/or prisms on rifles. I think your only option be limited to iron sights on pistols.

Yea I've been going to various gun stores and sports stores looking through their ACOG and RMR selection. So far I think the ones that work best for me are the Fiberoptic/Tritium RMRs. But those even indoors are not bright. Been looking for a TA31s but they are sold out everywhere so I couldn't find one to look through.

I feel kinda bad looking through their ACOG/RMRs and not buying it from them because its just cheaper online.

I have astigmatism also, and was recently testing optics on my AR9 project - I did seem to prefer my Vortex Spitfire (illuminated reticle) to my StrikeFire (red dot).
I recently read that true holographic sights are supposed to be better for people like us, but I haven't really gotten to try any out yet.

I think you mean the opposite. Holographic sights are horrible for people with an astigmatism.

One big problem I've noticed is every single red dot is different. Even if it's the same brand and model. You could have 2 Spitfires in front of you, and one will look good enough to use, and the other will be terrible.

Get hands and eyes on them, I have astigmatism and it's different for each.

                      SRO (5 MOA) - dot
                      RMR - star
                      CMORE - dot
                      Docter - dot
                      Aimpoint T1 - comet
                      Primary Arms - star

Also depends on your use - Fast stuff like USPSA? Bigger and dot clarity does not matter as much. Precision? Get the smallest MOA you can see and adjust brightness.

Shape also gets better for me when lighting is brighter sunlight.

OP have you considered the Primary Arms GLX? It's a 2x prism sight with the ACSS reticle and it has very good reviews. At 2x it wouldn't be quite as fast on target as a red dot but with practice it might work really well.

An 1.5 ACOG(etched reticle), or a prismatic sight is the answer.

if it's that bad then you need a prism scope or something with an etched reticle.
