I’ve liked and owned Colts for almost 50 years. Do not be discouraged by my assessment it’s only my opinion and in the big picture it may not be worth much. I’ve not seen enough to tell whether it’s up to the
Original but for the price I believe it’s a great alternative because the
prices for nice originals are very high. Also note blued originals have to
be LOOKED at very carefully,there are a LOT of reblued ones showing up in various places and being sold as original. If you can get the Python at the retail price,you should probably buy it. If nothing else it looks a lot better then most other revolvers. Pete

I owned and shot MINT original stainless Pythons when they came out in the early 80s. These were all guns when Colt got warmed up for a
strike in 1985, a lot of these pre strike guns were NOT up to par and had a multitude of finish and action problems. These are Pythons where I learned how to install a new bolt or hand to correct timing issues. Blued Guns from this time period suffered the same problems.
Might remember that if you have To throw down $3000 for an original.

Reading Sam'l Colts biography (Revolver)... his first factory had a giant weathervane on top a tall bell tower by the factory door. The weathervane was shaped like a Colt Patterson Ring Lever Rifle.

His second factory in Hartford had an entrance that looked like a Greek Temple with a gigantic blue dome on top featuring the golden Rampant Colt pony. You could see it up high overhead from a mile away.

Regarding grips, Deer Hollow makes exact duplicates of the originals from 1955 to late 1970's type. I have a set, they fit the new model Python perfectly. Note that the new Python carries silver medallions, not gold. This is a change for Colt so I suppose OM Trooper/OMM grips would would be appropriate.

I have the 6" new model, a 1980 made 8" nickel 38 Special target model and a late 50's made OM Trooper and an OMM. Believe it or not, all benefit from a bit of internal polishing. With the exception of the SA trigger pull I think the new model is every bit as good as what people are calling the "legacy" Python. Thumb cocking is a bit easier on the old model, I'd say that's due to the longer teardrop hammer spur more than the internals.

The cylinder bolt spring is a bit lighter than I'd prefer, but it seems sufficient.

The finish on the new model Python is much better than would be thought based on photographs. Cylinder, barrel, trigger guard are very, very well done.

ive seen a lot of mixed reviews on the new colt snake guns I personally know one of my friends from the gun shop had issues with his gun from day one he bought a new king cobra and had problems with the cylinder locking up with cartridges in the gun, it took for ever for him to get ahold of customer service to have a gunsmith look it over, they fixed the issue and re timed the gun hes happy now but he said that it amazes him on how they would let something like the gun that he received would pass through quality inspection

Full disclosure, I shoot a raced up S&W 627 eight shot .357.

My buddy's got an original mid 70's Python. I shot it, I was unimpressed. It looks cool, but that's about it.
