    C&R Colt 1911

I have the opportunity to pick up a 1950's Colt 1911 which I understand fits in the C&R category. Is there anything I need to do differently reguarding registration? Would my LGS be able to receive the firearm or do I need to find one that specializes in C&R?

Any dealer can receive it. it's not hard to date a Colt so that shouldn't be a problem. Just find a dealer who won't charge you a lot for the transfer.

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

The fact that the gun is a curio or relic makes no difference unless you have a C&R license, and if in California you also have a COE.

That said and assuming you have a C&R and COE, the ffl can log it into his own book as a C&R and log it right back out to you, using your C&R license and COE info. And having read more than a few stories here about FFL's not knowing how to handle that kind of a transfer, the throw up their hands and say they can't do it. You'll need a relatively experienced ffl and may have to make some calls to find one.

The gun being C&R absolutely makes a difference, because that makes it roster exempt for every buyer, it does not matter if they have a C&R or not. You do not need a C&R license to buy a C&R handgun, but the gun does need to be C&R to be roster exempt.

And in CA, even if you have a COE and C&R license, a DROS must still be done for a handgun. And most will have you do a 4473 even though it is not required.

Not "book to book" here in California. It gets DROS'd like any other firearm, but no 10 day jail if buyer has a C&R and COE.

log it in as a C&R? um..it just logs in as a colt 1911..theres nothing special we have to list..just make model serial number where it came from and where it goes to..nothing special gets written down on the books to specify it as c&r

If nothing denotes it as C&R and its just a Colt 1911 wouldnt it be considered off roster?

Not counting BP, there’s like 4 conversations going on here... Yes OP, it is roster exempt and can be purchased just like any rostered handgun. If the seller is out of state, make sure your FFL understands because not all of them are going to be receptive.

15 years in TX cleaned out my brain. TX to ID wasn't a major change.
