reliability package, trigger job -
You need to decide this firstOriginally posted by LateBrakingHow much do you want to spend?
I would do this BEFORE checkering.
1.) reliability package,
2.) trigger job
3.) match barrel bushing
And then ask, how much experience do you have shooting a 1911 checkered at 20 lpi, 25 lpi, 30 lpi?
I love 20 lpi, but most of my friends don’t.
30 lpi is way too fine for me, even my wife doesn’t care for it.
25 lpi seems to be the happy medium, where no hates it, it’s a good grip, but doesn’t tear up office hands.
Now a days, all checkering is done my machine, so you may want to consider other group options, fish scale, chain link, golf ball.
Look up the thread by Cifaldi Precision.
You’re 1911 is pretty much there. A good 4-4.5 lb trigger job makes a world of difference.Last edited by sirgrumps; 08-26-2020, 4:42 PM.?The constitutional right to bear arms in public for self-defense is not a ?second-class right,? subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees.? ?.. Edit: You're right. I have no suggestions for you. Heck I don't even know if your gun is used or new, how much rounds it has through it, what problems you're experiencing if any, if you just want cosmetic improvements, if you just want functional improvements, etc. I literally don't know any of your criteria. I'm glad it's ok though, have a good one.

Thanks man. If you want answers ask questions. Don’t come in and just be negative and rude. I don’t understand. You seem happy about being rude. I feel bad for you man.Edit: You're right. I don't know what about my original, deleted post was rude. I asked how much you want to spend, and noted a list of possibilities. Nothing in my original post was a personal attack, but apparently you took it as one. "How much do you want to spend?" is pretty innocuous, and using starry icons and a comical line about a list is far from negative and rude. If anything, I'm worried about you man, you seem to be perceiving pretty benign comments as personal attacks, and to be perfectly frank, my second comment's tone was merely a mirror response to your tone in kind.
To expound on this, I recall someone in the past on this forum who asked for suggestions, except he was insistent on not receiving any reliability package or trigger job work, and upset when other forum members' suggestions reached a certain budget threshold. We're not mind readers here, and, as shown perfectly in your later responses, overbroad requests for help receiving overbroad suggestions tends to, for some reason, offend the original enquirer.Last edited by LateBraking; 08-26-2020, 4:56 PM.sigpic

If you don't have a pinned 1911 ejector, get that pinned to.

If you really don’t know I’d prefer to ignore it and move on. I will say my bad. I’m not against reliability upgrades, except the gun is 100% reliable. Would you suggest function upgrades if I’m good with the function? Perhaps it will benefit after a few thousand rounds? Or years down the road. The gun is about a month old, bought new. I’ve put about 400 rounds through it. I think I’ll get some trigger work done on it. I thought of polishing the ramp myself and getting some reliability work done local if problems should arise. My budget is open, meaning I could end up spending $1000 if I see the need. Right now I think I’m only at $300. I have seen some beautiful 1911’s with thousands done, but I’m doing the front strap for function. I enjoy the gun enough as it is, but would like the front strap. Maybe an accuracy package would be good tho? The problem there is its going to take a lot of time for me to be as accurate as the gun. I had a 4” group at 15 yards the other day, thats the best I’ve shot. So perhaps in a few more months I could notice an accuracy package?I don't know what about my original, deleted post was rude. Just as a budgetary note, the image of the work you posted would require an entirely new barrel that is fitted to your gun, as it is a bull barrel setup, the new guide rod plug shown in the image, and a new guide rod, for what I would argue is mostly aesthetic, but not very functional gains. Up to $500 parts plus labor, as well as the length of time you'd be out waiting for the gun to be fitted to said bull barrel setup. If you really don’t know I’d prefer to ignore it and move on. If you just want the flush cut reverse cut crown, then you can do that, it won't look the same but it will at least you are only paying for the cost of the reverse-crown on the barrel and getting a significant amount of the look.
Ask your smith about a trigger job and a reliability package anyways. They will take the measurements and run the tests (and have the experience) to determine if the gun requires a reliability package or not. As for a trigger job, that's up to you to determine where you want it set at. I like 3.5 lbs. Others like 4.5. Personal preference. But a properly performed trigger job still feels better than stock.
Is your skin sensitive? Not meant to offend, a member here insisted on getting only a de-horning job all over because he had sensitive skin and hated snagging sharp edges. Determine if that's something worth it to you as well. Do you like the sights? I personally hate target sights, so I'm getting those changed out front and rear, but some people like those. Another thing you have to determine whether you like or not. So on and so forth.Last edited by LateBraking; 08-26-2020, 5:24 PM.sigpic
