Irons are faster, no batteries required, suck in low light conditions and not so great for older/bad eyes, when used with a weapons mounted light the sights are very dark and slow to pick up.

RDS are faster on transitions, almost a must for NV, but require a lot of constant training, get lost in unconventional shooting positions, hard to pick up when shooting support side, can be left on in a high mode killing the battery quickly, batteries can corrode but lithiums usually don't and not there when needed.

Laser are great for known distances, can be bought as a light/laser assembly in 1 compact unit, require hardly any training but have a very narrow range before hold overs/unders are used, can easily drain batteries if left on, batteries can corrode but lithiums usually don't.

Why oh why did I find this thread so long after the fact? I think that we can all tell that SoCalDep is a 16 year old typing in his basement like he admitted. Doesn’t seem like he knows much about firearms training (especially when it comes to red dot) and probably can’t perform with a pistol. And who the heck is this OIF vet kid who pops up here and there? Seems like the kinda guy who only shows up to work every now and then...

+1, IME both excel over irons for older eyes.
