    Sig Sauer P238 Question

    Newbie here with a question.
Is the Sig Sauer Model # 238-380-HD-NI all stainless steel (slide and frame)?
Or is the 'NI' an abbreviation for a 'Nickel Coating' over an aluminum frame. . . or?
Looking at one that will be exposed to saltwater and want as much corrosion resistance as possible. And I prefer the added weight.
Sorry for the basic question, just want to make sure.
    Thanks in advance.

    I believe it’s nickel plated.

Good weight for a pocket gun. If exposed to salt water, make sure it’s coated in a good gun oil to reduce possible corrosion and rust.

Unless you're exempt, it really doesn't matter for 2 reasons.

It's not on the roster and it looks to be discontinued.

You would be better off looking for one of the on roster guns (hint, click on links)

      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Stainless steel rusts too, so you still need to take care of it.

Wow . . .thanks for all the intel. That first one sold already. Looks like I'm gonna have a hard time finding the one i want. I really don't want one with that damn 'LCI'. If i could find a PPT/ FFL deal . . . but I guess that's even more unlikely.

Really appreciate your time, thank you.

Sometimes you have to drive to get what you want. I'm in Ontario and went to Bakersfield to buy a gun once.

There are earlier versions of the HD that had both uncoated stainless steel frames and slides. On my box it lists as 238-380-HDW. Heavy Duty-Wood (rosewood grips). It was built in 2012.

Usually, when you see "HD" in the model, it is an indication of all steel/stainless as opposed to light weight aluminum frame.

Thanks for all the info . . .I'm going to wait until one pops up. Considered ordering a new one 'CA approved with LCI', but if it doesn't get here before 2021 and goes off-roster, I'm hosed.

it's very likely that sig sauer has completely ceased production on the ca approved variant because all stores are bone dry in regards to the p238 save for the occasional 2x premium consignments. the ones that do have it in stock are withholding from public and running auctions instead for the dozen or so units they have left(this is from me monitoring gunbrokers recently where it's a 1.5x premium, but it's possible they have a lot more in stock that they're saving so they can sell on auction sites for a 2x premium well into next year.
