Dan Wesson Commander Classic Bobtail

They're available but I wouldn't say readily. And usually highly priced in stores. Before the craziness you could snag a solid deal in the marketplace if you were patient and persistent.
I got an absolute steal trading for one on here. Love it.

I will tell you to find one at a range and try it. There is a BIG deference in recoil between a full size full rail and a commander. I have a few full size 45 1911s and enjoy them all. I have had a couple of commanders but due to a bad right thumb I sold them because I no longer enjoyed shooting them.Comment

They are not a produced to the scale of a gun like a Smith and Wesson M&P shield or something. Since there isn’t really anything else on the roster that compares, I say keep searching. I enjoy hunting for a specific gun at a good deal. Sometimes you will find them on gunbroker NIB too. That’s where I found a springfield 1911 mc operator and HKP2000sk LEM, two guns that were sold out everywhere.Comment

Both great guns... I got them both within the last year.
I was interested in a railed Springfield TRP. I didn't really have any immediate plans to buy it but one day after work I stopped at Turner's just to check them out and handle them. Turns out they were having for sale on Springfield Loaded models as part of their Fall sale. They were also having a sale on the TRP models but they weren't listed in the catalog. So I ended up buying one for $300 off.
I also wanted a commander and had been looking at the Dan Wesson Bobtail. Grab A Gun was selling them for around 1300 for most of the year last year. They sold their inventory and raised prices to mid 1500s. I missed that boat. I kept looking around and found one at 2AZone here in CA. They had a price not much higher than GaG's discount price so I went ahead and ordered it on February 20th of this year. I'm so glad I did, I missed the crazy by 3 weeks.
Because I was used to shooting 3" 1911s the Commander was a breeze to shoot once I got used to the weight.
I'm in South OC and you're welcome to shoot it if you want to join me at the range!
It's worth tracking down!Last edited by madmike88; 07-19-2020, 2:12 AM.Comment

Sounds like the same path I went down on....start on the full rail TRP and eventually grow from there.
Have the CBoB in my carry rotation and changed out the mainspring housing and rear sight. Great carry gun especially if you fancy the 1911 platform."1911 mag, twinkie, twinkie, cupcake, primary weapon mag"
