    2011 build

    Hello,

I am looking at a PT 2011 frame and would like to build a limited gun with it.
I have never done this before. So I need some advice here.
First, is it perfectly legal to make a semi-auto handgun once you obtain the frame through PPT?
Second, which gunsmiths can build a great 2011 limited gun for you. I only know big names, like SVI, Atlas, Limcat, etc. None of them will take the job to build a gun using your frame.
    Thanks for your input.

Pretty much any 1911/2011 Smith in the country can build up your 100% frame.

Freedom Gunworks, Cheely Custom, 1911 Speed Shop, and literally a billion others will build it. Even for CA guys.

It will help if you mention where you are. There is no shortage of custom shops but it is best to go to someone local to you.

I don’t think you can ppt a frame. I bought a 2011 frame that had to be assembled into a complete firearm for the transfer.

Im assuming its like an AR pistol lower, as long as its PPT'd as a semi auto then youre good to go to build it to CA legal specs. When I was PPT'ing my lower, the guy at Crosshairs in Torrance asked for barrel length and I had already purchased a 10.5 upper so I put that on for the PPT. If I remember correctly Riflegear asked for at least a maglock for PPT. I dont know if the barrel length and maglock was actually necessary for PPT or it just depends on the FFL own rules and regulations so just ask.

Genecco Gun Works in Stockton has built more than a few guns. He built a friend's Open gun (USPSA) and it runs like a champ!

An issue with doing a frame only PTT may be the safe gun handling requirement. To use a replacement means much more then just another 1911 for that portion.
If you are exempt from the requirement of safe handling demo then good for you.
Many dealers will not do just a bare handgun frame.
If you have a dealer telling you no worries then even better.

It's looking a lot more like a member of the 1911 family - the 2011 is commonly a widebody (possibly higher capacity) version of the great JMB pistol.

There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

                              ^^
No. You do not need a safety check when purchasing a frame only. DROS drop down has a frame only option.

It is a frame, obviously has no do hicky knobs on it to do a handling check. Just use an informed FFL.
