    Red Dot Pistol Class

I have recently acquired a pistol with a red dot and I was wondering if there was a class offered specifically for that anywhere in LA/OC/IE that people have had experience with.

OP, what is it you need help with? Red dots are pretty intuitive to use. Put the red dot on what you want to shoot, pull the trigger.

Some basic dry fire drills will really help in drawing and finding the dot.

Also...focus on the target and bring the dot to the target.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I received some private messages as well that were very helpful. In terms of what I need help with, it's just an adjustment on my end... learning to change my point of focus when firing. Little instruction from those who know more than I do never hurt.

Look for the dot first. Do not look at target. Ok well focus on the dot and not the target. You should know and see the target but focus on finding dot first. Field of vision is key with this.

Develop a consistent grip. Strengthen your hand/arm muscles.
if you’re right handed use the other hand to drive the gun. Opposite if you’re a lefty.
Use both eyes, know which is your dominant eye.
                  Practice more.

Be sure to study up too! Be sure to check out the Aaron Cowan from Sage Dynamics videos on you tube. Super detailed content on the how/what/why of red dots. And take a peek at Suarez international website to check out their slides. They have some good info on their Warriortalk forum too. (I realize a lot of people here don't dig the owner). Good discussion on glock talk too.

Sadly, he doesn't have anything scheduled in CA through the end of the year.

I missed his class earlier this year due to some issues, and it looks like my credit is going to expire before I can get to an out of state class

Scott Jedlinski, Modern Samurai Project, will be here end of October. He seems to be a leading voice regarding Red Dots along with Aaron Cowan.

It's a little more than just that. Most shooters have the tendency to have their pistol to low to their line of sight, pistol not level or canted to one side. The best practice is have the rear sight aligned to your dominant eye at the highest point possible so your pupil is in the rear notch, look through your RDS at the target don't look for the dot, and use the web between your thumb and pointer finger around your target. It takes a lot of repetition to learn and constant training to maintain efficiency.
