      Different time, different game.

For the low recoiling .38SPL wadcutters and with accuracy thumping the speed of followup shots, that technique made a lot of sense.

You know it was an accuracy game when you scored by counting the shots that didn't fall into the hole in the center of the target...usually just a few of the 24 shots from 50 yards

The S&W PPC9 would fall under Section 3.3 Open Class Semi-Automatic Pistol of NRA's PPC Rulebook.

In the bay area, the Monday Night League holds a PPC competition at Reeds Indoor range every week, except during our wonderful SIP sting. Here is the link:

MNSL Monday Night Shooting league is an indoor shooting competition at Reed's indoor range in the San Francisco Bay Area, featuring a 25 yard range with 20 lanes, premium firearms, top-quality parts, accessories, and ammunition, as well as training and certification classes

I went to a few of those shoots, I guess it was around 2010.

It was fun, very friendly environment. The shoot was run by James Saburomaru and this guy "Steggy" (sp?) who had a really impressive handlebar mustache.

My best score was 462 out of 480, shooting a Ruger GP100.

I shot PPC from 1970 through 1980. Used a modified K-14 bull barrel first, then a Bill Davis Custom - with the sliding front sight set-up. Went to matches (with our pistol team) around the US and Canada (RCMP Academy). Went to Jackson MS 3-4 times. Met some great shooters (Bill Jordan used to show up in Jackson.) Had a lot of fun shooting, and the get togethers before and after the matches were the best. Good comraderie.

I wish we have Bianchi Cup shooting discipline in the Bay Area. The mover stage will be a big bottleneck for shooters. PPC is about the closest thing to it without the plates.

Bianchi Cup course of fire is different from PPC in 3 big ways.

                      1st, you have a mover,
2nd, there is a power factor,
                      3rd, much tighter time limits,
4th, the plates must fall to count.

PPC has reloading under time limits, Bianchi has none.

But the Money-Shot Difference between the two events is this:
With PPC, all your shots it's Sight Alignment. Except for the 7 yard line where you just point & shoot.
Where as with Bianchi, if you wait to get a perfect Sight Alignment you won't make you time. Except...The plates.

Get your sights aligned anywhere on the plate, even if it's a half inch from the inside edge, you have to trust
your pistol's accuracy and sight alignment and drop the hammer smoothly. Otherwise you won't make time.
Waiting to align your sights perfectly on the mover and you are history. On the mover it's all sight picture.

Completely different match. Speed oriented (i.e. who shoots the stage the fastest), whereas PPC was shot in an allotted time (i.e. you have 4 seconds to draw and fire 6 rounds.)

If you look at all the other competition shooting discipline they all require running. For people who can shoot accurately and fairly fast, but have shot knees and/or bad back you’re SOL in the game. Even Steel Challenge have a stage where you change shooting box. Does Bianchi Cup and PPC require running?

There's no running in either one.
Although, some shooters with bad knees and backs do have problems shooting some different positions. i.e. prone position in Bianchi (although not required) and kneeling, sitting & prone in PPC which are required.

                                A staple for many Range Rules include words similar to;
                                ''No Running On The Range".

That is why so many 1980s OGs disassociated themselves from Action Shooting Events. Running
on the range was a major No-No. It had nothing to due with physical aliments. It was just an age
old range rule that was in effect since the Jurassic days.

But these guys went along with the idea because they needed the income and the action pistol
range wasn't seen by the regular members or public.

You won't find that tidd-bit of history on Google.
