    PPC Competition Handguns

I am looking for some info on PPC matches.

Are these police only or public, or two categories for each?

Here is a list of approved Handguns for PPC.

If there are 2 categories, does this list apply to both or just for Police matches?

Anyone here has been to such matches in CA? What are some of popular guns for this type of competition?

Never did PPC, though I was tempted to pop in to try the match at Chabot ( back before that range was closed. )

Dug up a snapshot of their webpage for that:

PPC Program Information: When: 2nd Sunday every month Where:  Range 4 How Much:  $6.00 and up. Activity Manager:  Erik Scott Special Instructions:  Open to both Law Enforcement and non – Law Enforcement Personnel. Minimum age: 18. Police Pistol Combat or PPC is a regularly held competition that is on the 2nd Sunday of each month …

    FWIW...

The only PPC matches I've been to in CA were open to gov't LEO's & private security folks - I was a member of California Police Pistol Association during the early 90's before moving out of state.
Popular PPC pistols were modified S&W K-frames (or L-frames) by Bill Davis, Jarvis & Alan Tanaka. A very popular semi-auto is the S&W PPC9, but there are also Les Baer Custom 1911 PPC & STI Targetmaster.

I remember that day on the line. But I don't remember who took the picture.
Funny, I don't recall anyone asking me to sigh a release form. The picture shows a
bit more than half of all competitors that day.
2nd Sunday of month, bright and early!

              OddJack,
That link is for Production Semi-Auto Pistol category which is for stock & mass produced guns.
The S&W PPC9 would fall under Section 3.3 Open Class Semi-Automatic Pistol of NRA's PPC Rulebook.

If you're building an Open class gun, here's a link to Aristocrat Products. Their adjustable sights are used by the majority of PPC Open class shooters.

PPC still exits through the California Police Pistol Association (https://capolicepistol.org/). Pretty much strictly for LEOs. Like all competitions, the season has been delayed. The big PPC event is the NRA National Police Shooting Championship in Mississippi in September. Nothing on website about it being cancelled or postponed yet.

Expect to spend big bucks for the Open Class guns. This is the Springfield 1911 specifically made for PPC shooting (https://www.springfield-armory.com/1...d-9mm-handgun/).

LAPD legend John Pride did a PPC video about 30+ years ago. Good info on PPC competition https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-t2qCJ74fI

First-second time I watched that Lenny McGill video of John Pride Not everything made sense. I watched the VHS video not YT. Didn’t really agree with locked arms shooting. Really loved that Bill Davis WindMaster, wish I picked one up.

I haven't been to a PPC match since the mid 70's when I went to a few to watch my dad shoot. IIRC, he was on his LEA's team and sometimes he shot on a team from a private security company he also worked for.

I didn't know PPC was still around.

I shot a couple of PPC matches at Chabot in the 80s. Open to non-LE at the time. That was back in the revolver era of Smolts (S&W frames with a Python barrel) and heavy-*** slab-sided custom barrels. Wish I had had my revolvers actions worked on by the guys who did tuning back then - those DA pulls were so light and smooth...

They still shoot the Bianchi Cup every year. You can even watch it on tv.
