    What's wrong with this picture?

The gun is a G45 MOS with between 1500 and 2000 rounds down the tube.

What’s going on with the safety plunger?

It's fine. I think it's just the way the light is hitting it that gives it the copper hue. The problem is admittedly difficult to see in the picture, but its much more serious than the discoloration of the plunger.

P.S. I stripped off all the lube to take the pictures, so any discoloration that may look like lube, isn't.

Explore handgun parts (1,576) at Brownells, including slides, barrels, and triggers to repair, upgrade, or customize your handgun for improved performance.

It looks like the "chrome" plating on the firing pin safety has worn down to the copper plating underneath. From the photo, I don't see any wear to the firing pin safety's main body. If it's bothersome, the part from Brownell's is only ~$4 (I didn't check other suppliers' prices). Otherwise, I suspect the firing pin safety will keep working fine.

Glock might warranty it, but would need a certified Glock Armorer to return the original part (which might take ~4 weeks turnaround); otherwise, Glock would want the entire G45 slide returned (possibly the entire gun) and the owner would have to call Glock to see if Glock would pay return shipping. Whether return shipping was paid or not, estimate ~week to 10 day turnaround for Glock to replace the firing pin safety and ship the slide or gun back directly to the owner.

My Gen2-4 firing pin safeties often had the plating start to to flake off. My two Gen5 and G43 firing pin safeties don't show any flaking of the plating in ~15K rounds, each.

FYI for all who don't already know the silver lookin' plating on Glock trigger parts is NOT Chrome.

It is Electroless Nickle, which then gets baked and becomes very hard. it is about .0004-.0006 in thickness.

The slide has a crack (it looks like a water spot in the picture) running from the vent hole in the bottom of the slide to the left side of the ejection port, opposite of the extractor. The left side of the ejection port has a significant chip. In short, the slide is toast.

I tried to add arrows to the pic, but my my photobucket kung fu is weak.

I think I see it, the pic is slightly out of focus. That sucks, will Glock cover under warranty? Is this a known issue?

Yikes. Maybe Glock will send you a new slide? I'd give them a call, it's worth a try.

Post_5, thanks for the clarification on the plating.
Post_6, I don't see any crack, but do see Glock's latest breech-face-notch feature which aids in ejection and, apparently ends the brace-to-face issue.

Definitely try taking a better pic, if you're going to send to Glock. I think I see the crack, but it is out of focus. Try zooming in and getting the camera to focus on the crack.

I thought I saw a crack there, focused pic would help though.

Here, you can see the crack a little better in this pic.

I first noticed it because pieces of a blue HD shop towel were getting stuck in the crack when I was wiping it down. I'll call Glock tomorrow and see what they have to say.

I've seen Glocks with cracked breech faces before. The owners attributed those cracks to dry firing. But, this one has me stumped.

I just completed the 5 day Gunsite 250 class with this gun (I took home the silver chicken). I cleaned it every day and didn't notice any problems. I never had any malfunctions. I shot factory ammo. The gun ran fine. I really can't think of anything that would cause this.

If this is indeed the "crack" it appears like something machined in rather than a crack.
