9MM original performance ported shield or new 2.0 non ported shield?

My daughter is looking at picking up a 9mm shield. In Utah where she's located she has the oppertinity to buy a NIB 2.0 shield from a dealer for $350 OTD, comes with two mags.

She also can buy a like new used, (WE see no wear at all on it) first gen performance center shield with one mag for the same price.

My daughter carries both a full size M&P 9 and a RUGER LCP at times , but she'd prefer a smaller 9, and she's wondering if the ported barrel would have noticeable reduction in recoil which she'd prefer, or would it be negligible where she might as well go for the newer design pistol.

I have both shield and full m&p9, I feel that the recoil isn't bad at all on the shield. It is very similar. And having ported barrel is something to consider.

I would not get ported, and more so on a short barrel 9mm. There will be not much difference in flip with 9mm (nor recoil). Last thing you want to think about is getting gases if needed shooting at an awkward angle.

SIG P365 is the hot pistol today, because it holds 10 rounds for the size (prob. cost more). Don't know much more about it, because we in California.

I wouldn't mind porting on a range gun. Never on a self defense weapon. Can you imagine discharging a weapon in a struggle where your arms aren't stretched out in front of you and you get blinded by a blast to the face from the port? No bueno.

Thanks for the opinions, we didn't even think about the blast from the port in a defensive shooting. I think she'll go for the 2.0 for $315 plus fees

Get the p365. Whatever I carry seems to pickup a ton of lint and crud over the course of the day. So much so that night sights usually need to be dug out every weekend or so. I hesitate to think how much junk would find its way into ports. I’m not sure if I’d consider that for a carry pistol.

Hold the gun at your waist. Close to your body. With it pointing in front of you. Look down at it like you're fighting for it. Now without wearing any eye protection -- as you would not be in an emergency -- fire the gun. Then report back to us about how much we don't know.

Edit: Please don't actually do this. You may permanently damage your eyes. Try thinking about it. You missed the point when you assumed the warnings above had something to do with shooting in the dark.

Everything else should be second nature.

If you have to look down to fight for YOUR gun, you've already lost.
