I have a Ruger 45acp/45LC that uses moon clips to shoot 45acp. I bought some 45 Winchester Magnum ammo from Underwood and shot it in this revolver using moon clips since it has the same base as a 45 acp cartridge. The Ruger Redhawk is more than strong enough to handle this Magnum ammo. That is about as close as you can get to a .45 Magnum revolver. 45 Win Mag is loaded to the same maximum pressure as a .44 Magnum, which are both lower than .454 Casull pressure levels.Comment

So many writers choose to write fiction that prominently features firearms without bothering to learn the least thing about it. Granted, you don't want to dump a bunch of Tom Clancy nomenclature on the average reader, but you can easily achieve that by just being vague. I'm a crap writer, but at least I know to not try and sound knowledgeable about stuff I don't know, I'll just leave out details instead. Lee Childs and Robert B. Parker come to mind.Comment

there is 45acp, 45 Colt and 45 Win mag, the whole 45LC thing is for non shooters
if there is no such thing as a 45 short Colt, then there is no reason to something 45 Long Colt

The 45 short colt did exist. It was the 45 colt government and it had the same rim diameter as the long colt and not the wider rim of the Schofield round. Please see the article in "Lever Guns"
So it was a way to distinguish between the Long Colt that was made commercially and the Government round that was made for the Colt M1909 New Service and Colt Alaskan Models that were in use before the 1911 was fully adopted. As I remember reading, the Schofield round's larger rim diameter kept it from being used in the cylinder of the M1909 New Service.Last edited by mausercat; 04-17-2020, 1:47 PM.Comment

I have a friend who is an author. Occasionally he'll have me proofread some work for him. He was reading someone elses book one time and the hero "snicked the safety off of his revovler." He wants to make sure that he doesn't write something like that. He's pretty gunwise but second pair of eyes don't hurt.Comment

I have a Wildey in that caliber. They made lots in that caliber and are now making new ones in that caliber as well. Also, the Grizzly comes in .45 win mag. AMT also has a pistol in that caliber. Not many others though.Comment
