    Sig P226 question

    Greetings.

What is the magazine feature that folks are 'disabling' in their CA Sig P226 and why?

Lastly if its suggested to do this(for durability or such), can anyone recommend a gunsmith in the Ventura county area?

    Thanks!

i found some information here (https://pistol-forum.com/showthread....agazine-Safety) if that helps. Apparently there are a couple of different designs depending upon when the pistol was released.

I have no experience with this and wouldn't advocate it...that said there are also youtube videos out there.

California compliant P226's, that have the lower chamber indicator on the top, will also have a magazine disconnect feature as part of California compliance. If you remove the magazine you can not drop the hammer/fire the gun. Browning hi power's have had this feature for many decades.

The mag disconnect will take about 5mins, and just leave the indicator alone.

The de-cocker still works as designed. Dropping the hammer by pulling the trigger is a rookie, untrained, Hollywood move.

I made the mistake of buying a CA sig with the mag disconnect and shark fin. First thing I did was replace the locking insert with the standard non-mag disconnect version, a $50 part and 5 minute swap. Never could get over the horrendous shark fin so I sold it.

Understood.. I should have added "by pulling the trigger". Its an issue when competing IDPA/USPSA/IPSC where the final act if unloading is pulling the trigger to drop the hammer/striker and prove an empty chamber.

Yup.. I own over 20 SiG's and not one is a CA compliant version just because of the loaded chamber indicator.

I've never understood how a magazine disconnect was a safety feature, can anyone enlighten me?

It isnt really a safety device but...

                      1) If you store the gun and magazine separate in the home, a child who finds the gun cannot make it fire, even with a round in the chamber

                      2) A police officer or anyone else fighting with a suspect for control of their gun can hit the mag release and render the gun non-op before loosing it.

Thanks for the replies. I was under the notion that the feature was detrimental over the life of the gun. I will keep it as it is for now.

On a side note and I am not sure this is a question I should ask but is there any outside place one can go to practice within 150 miles of Ventura? I believe the glass factory was shut down for accidental injury or something.

                        Thanks again!

I heard On Target shooting range from Aliso Viejo is open. Call them.

If you are a new gun owner, I highly recommend that you 'invest' in some professional training as soon as the chinese virus crisis subsides. It will keep you from developing in correct muscle memory from existing bad habits/incorrect technique and save you money in the long run.

is this your first gun or one of many? just wanna share to you what happened to my wife's mk25 with this stupid feature: after 4k+ rounds (some may break more than 5k rounds or less) through it, the magazine disconnect broke and i had to wrestle with the magazine to get it out of the gun.

mk25 is now her range gun and her sd/hd gun is a combat sig 9mm with no commiefornia stupid features.
