    92FS Experts?

Bored, looking for projects. Supposedly, the 92FS is full of plastic parts, like the guide rod and trigger. This particular one has all steel parts. Perhaps earlier s/n (early 2000s) Berettas had steel parts and just the later ones had plastic parts???
Was going to swap out the hammer for a 'skeleton' one as they look kind of cool. Should I install the "D" spring while I am in there? Thinking about swapping out the mag release too, for an oversized one.

I swapped the hammer for the skeletonized hammer for aesthetics, swapped the hammer spring with the lighter hammer spring and it's definitely an improvement with the SA trigger pull, installed the larger Beretta mag release and really like that as well and made mine a decocker only with the G conversion kit. Pretty much perfect for me now.

The other polymer parts (trigger, guide rod, lanyard loop, etc.) are fine by me and dont see the need to replace those for any reason, but to each his own. Thats the beauty of this forearm...you can change as much or as little of it as you'd like.

Yes the D spring is one of if not the biggest improvement you can make up a 92

I have the G conversion kit and will install soon. Hey on that oversize mag release, which one did you purchase - I see Beretta has two.

Look into a LTT trigger job in a bag. In addition to the elite hammer, steel guide rod, and oversized mag release. Makes my beretta smoooooooth

            D Spring and "G" Mod.

I have no problem with the poly guide rod.

I did buy a "parts kit" from CDNN that has steel parts. They are from an earlier model (small hammer pin) so not all parts are usable. I did swap out the hammer, trigger and mag release. If you go oversized mag release, skeleton hammer, and G-mod, this may not be worth it.

I also ended up with a Vertec slide with the G-mod.

The first one you linked to is the one I got. I really like that one. I got the Beretta oversized mag release and not the one from Wilson Combat. I've read about some having fitment issues with the WC version. After taking a 4-day handgun course at Front Sight the enlarged mag release and decocker kit were the first things I changed on the gun.

Also, depending on where your 92FS was made, you may want to also order a regular pin that holds the lanyard lop and trigger spring in place. The Italian made pistols have a roll pin, while the USA made pistols use a solid pin. The roll pin can be a little harder to get out and put back in. Mine is an Italian made 92FS and to be honest I actually didn't have any problem removing the roll pin. If you do have the Italian roll don't remove it all the way, just enough to release the lanyard and spring. Dont remove the roll pin 100% and it will make it much easier to reinstall it once you replace the spring.

Mine has the solid pin. What is confusing me is there are no polymer parts, they are all steel (except for lanyard/spring tube, which is aluminum). I guess it is because this is an earlier s/n.

I bought mine in 1995 and it is all metal parts. I heard the switch was mid-2000s from someone else here.

The plastic guide rod makes sense. I'd think twice about replacing it. It will flex and not bend, it's shaped such that debris will be much less a problem. Granted that's field reliability issues for those that may use it in combat situations. But I think it's a good idea to just leave that one alone. I think it's an instance were the cheaper part is better.

Can I replace the roll pin (from 92FS) with the solid pin (from M9)?

Check out My Brigadier in the for sale section, I have all the mods replacing less than desirable parts done. I listed the parts replaced so you will have an idea.

Yes, I did. Why wouldnt you? All the older Berettas had the solid pin. Beretta just got really cheap over the years using roll pins and plastic parts.

                              Not an expert but

I've replaced most of the upgradable parts on my Vertec with WC parts and LT trigger job in a bag.....
Pretty much all improved some, with the exception of the WC metal guide rod and shock buffer -- which actually increased the felt recoil to me.

But I love the way it looks so it's staying!
