Threaded barrel, PPK/S .22

Hey guys, I've got a question about the legality of bringing a pistol with a threaded barrel to California. I'm currently living out of state and will be moving back to the east bay in 3-4 months. All of the guns I'm bringing back will be California compliant at the time of return, featureless ARs etc.. Anyways, I recently bought Walther PPK/S .22 and when I was cleaning it I realized it has a threaded barrel, similar to the Walther P22. My question is: can I use locktight/epoxy on the thread protector and call it a permanent attachment, essentially making the barrel not threaded any more... at least is the eyes of CA DOJ.

I think you may have screw on the protector, drill and tap it (from the side), and spot weld the tapped area.

Can you buy another barrel for it? How else could you field strip it?

Walther/Smith and Wesson used lock tite to "fix" their threaded barrel issues. Can you do the same?

Your best option would be to buy a new barrel if you can find. You can own and keep a threaded pistol barrel in CA. You just can't have it installed in your pistol.

In regards to the Walther P22, what was allowed was an emergency fix that was approved due to CA DOJ error of not being aware the pistol had a threaded barrel in the first place. So far, Walther is the only manufacturer that was allowed to perform a quick fix of epoxing (red loctite) on a smooth thread protector/cap.

If a CA LE forensic/gun unit can remove the muzzle device, then it will be treated as a threaded barrel.

Permanent methods of attachment include full-fusion gas or electric steel-seam welding, high-temperature (1100o F) silver soldering, or blind pinning with the pin head welded over. Barrels are measured by inserting a dowel rod into the barrel until the rod stops against the closed bolt or breech-face. The rod is then marked at the furthermost end of the barrel or permanently attached muzzle device, withdrawn from the barrel, and measured.
