My carry compact in .45 is Kimber CDP2. However, I'll admit that it does have an occasional argument with defense rounds. I polished the snot out of the ramp, which helped tremendously, but its not 100% reliable. Feeds all other types of ammo flawlessly.

So tell me, do people carry specialty hollow points in stubby .45’s, generic .45 hollow points, or just plain hardball ammo? What kinda number are we talking here - 230 grains, 200 grains, 180 or 160 even?

I use 230 grain Federal HST in my 3" Kimber as well as in my 5" Springfields.

Tried 185 grain Speer in the Kimber and no thanks. Too stout in such a light weight gun. I'll risk the slightly lower velocity of the 230 grain fare for faster and more-precise followup shot placement. At the very least they'll make a .45 cal hole in target if satisfactory expansion is not achieved.

I carry a Dan Wesson CBoB, really underrated pistol IMO.

And I'm going to add that the 1911-pattern pistol (as made by Colt, Springfield, Kimber and all the rest including the low-production "high end" pistols from Nighthawk, Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, etc) is the ONLY semiauto pistol *design* I am interested in owning, shooting, and defending my life with.

A quality, name-brand 1911 of modern manufacture is utterly reliable, will more than likely have improved sights and an excellent trigger. There's nothing else needed.

The DA/SA stuff has created a training nightmare for many agencies. Give me a *single action* semiauto. Give me a 1911.

I agree on the trigger, and I love my 1911s too.
