Smith and Wesson Model 52-2

Found this gem at my local shop. Overall condition is very good to excellent. Still debating whether I should pick this up. Anyone have any experience with these?

Good for shooting Bullseye pistol matches - 5 rnd mag works for that match format, good sights and low recoil. Ammo is wad cutter seated right flush with top of case. Not a problem if you reload.

Good price for the condition if magazines are included, as they tend to be rare and expensive on used market. These guns are real fun to shoot and insanely accurate to 25yd with any ammo, and to 50yd with good ammo matched to the gun. Also one of the best dry-fire platforms i know. If you plan to shoot it, be mindful that they chamber only .38 special mid-range (downloaded) wadcutters. It will not feed or chamber normal FMJ or hollow points. So you will need either to reload, which is tricky for that particular caliber and gun, or need to buy quite expensive target ammo. Some internal works differ from mainline S&W semiautos and finding a gunsmith who knows them can be daunting, so be prepared to do some work yourself. Spare parts are becoming very scarce and some parts between 52, 52-1 and 52-2 differ.
Their triggers can be notoriously light and get lighter with use and very difficult to regulate. The only cure for that is really new sear (very difficult to find) or a heavy hammer spring (unobtainium). If the trigger pull is less than 2lb the sear is worn. It might not be an issue for you if you do not compete and otherwise the gun is safe/sear does not slip. Another thing to watch is the hammer block safety - it is the first thing to go if the gun was dry-fired heavily.

I was going to say the same thing, nice specimens of these can go for alot more even on GB, I've got a few of these, 52, 52-1 and 52-2. They are amazing target pistols but as pointed out only mid range ammo, wad cutter loads only. I've set up for reloading and they are fun to shoot. Mark

Fantastic pistols, a friend has one. But sadly, parts are really scarce so as these things wear out you are going to be hard pressed to keep it in good functioning condition. But its the nicest pistol I have ever fired, for bullseye shooting, bar none. And as noted, unless you are set up to reload 38 special, you are going to be hard pressed to find ammo.

They are very nice for bullseye shooting.
There is factory ammunition available, but best to reload, as noted above. Super gentle shooting with the right load, and real tackdrivers.

Just FYI for those chasing one down. The S&W 52 "no dash" is roster exempt as C&R. The 52-1 and 52-2 are roster exempt under the Olympic Pistol exemption.

I passed up one about 10 years for $850....I still regret it. These are fine shooters. And you'll be the only guy on the firing line with one too. But it, buy it now!
