That they are. The bluing on this SAA from 2011 makes some Pythons cry.

Absolutely gorgeous - but how durable is that finish? A turn line on that seems like a tragedy.

If a Colt is handled/cocked correctly you can go several hundred cycles of firing and cocking and won’t develop a cylinder ring. There are 4 clicks on Colt. The first click lifts the hammer off the firing pin. The second click is for loading/ unloading the cylinder. The third click starts
the bolt rising out of the frame and start engaging the shovel end of the cylinder notch. The final click has the bolt fully engaged in the cylinder notch. Again if done correctly the bolt doesn’t touch the cylinder until it gets to the cylinder notch. (3rd and 4th clicks). It’s also
important after loading and unloading from the 2 Nd click to fully cock the hammer all the way thru the 4th click before lowering the hammer down on an MT chamber. Note: Do NOT dry fire these without snap caps, you can and will damage the firing pin.

I have a late 2nd gen SAA in 357 and an early 3rd gen in 44 Special. I've also had a recently made SAA and the finish was as you've shown. The polish is absolutely perfect and blued finish like glass. The concern I had, and reason I like the 2nd gen and earlier 3rd, is that while not nearly as polished the bluing seems deeper, more durable and likely to wear gradually compared to the newly made SAA. Whoever supposed that perhaps EPA or OSHA requirements changed the "recipe" may have been correct. Time will tell I suppose.

Whenever someone else shoots one of my SAA, even the clones, I load it and tell them to fully cock and fire and then hand the gun back to me. So far so good - no turn line.

What I said about the blue came from a ex Colt employee.
                  Your SSA looks great.
The first gun I ever handled was a nickle SSA,just 5 years old my Mom took me in to get pictures of me in my cowboy outfit with my 2 sixguns and after the shoot the photog goes you wanna see a real cowboy gun?He pulls that gun out and handed it to me I was like WHOAAAAAA.Now of course I have kept buying stuff because of him yes I have a couple Colts

I bought a new Colt Gold Cup last and the blueing is definitely not like the blueing on my 70's or 80's Gold Cup. It is much thinner and not as durable. I think that the blueing formula has changed. The Smiths I have seen seem to have a better blue. The best however is my Standard Manufacturing Single Action. It is beautiful and deep.

Why do the wood grips nowadays look like fake wood? Are those Altamonts?

I think someone said they are Altamont. I put money down on a new Python but
only after verifying that old Python grips fit the new frame. I’m replacing mine with old style grips if I get it.

If you get it! If you get it?

I agree with the getting the old style stock panels for the Colt. So 'hows-about' getting
the frame, cylinder, barrel, trigger and hammer and attach those too.

I have a lot of Altamont grips and I really like them. But last week I got a set of Coke Bottle repros for a Mod 29. They have that same look as the Pythons - very, veeerrrry smooth with no pores, and faux looking. They have no soul.

At least those Python grips are a nice looking dark wood. My coke bottles are too light.

I asked Altamont about refinishing them or darkening them - and they said they do not stain these grips. They are just finished with BLO or similar oil. They suggested I apply some more BLO to see if they would darken.

At least you can't argue with that fit - those things are fit perfectly on that Python.
