MACs

What companies make MACs that aren't banned by name in CA? I know you can't get them here from dealers, but out of state people who are moving in to CA might want to pick a nice MAC up before they move here.

I don't know how legal it is to actually bring somthing to KALI, I do know threaded barrels on hand guns is a big no no. I think their best bet is trying to find one for sale, in cali. They would be able to purchase with a PPT. But like I said, threaded barrels on hand guns are illegal. I am not a lawyer and I may also be wrong. If anyone on the site can correct me, please do so.

I believe the MPA's and such can be found without threaded barrels - you can find Cobra PM11's out there without the offensive features.

Just make sure you understand that you cannot import these in for commercial purposes, and you should be ok.

Best bet for what? Having to pay too much? Best bet for not being able to get a MAC? Yep, waiting until after you are in CA to do a PPT is the best bet for all of those. Good thinking.

Bring a pistol like a MAC in is perfectly legal, even if it isn't on the approved handgun list. It just has to follow the other rules about threaded barrels, large cap mags, etc.

The commercial purposes isn't an issue. People moving in need to know what they will have a hard time getting once they are in state, so they can make all the pistol purchases they might be wanting to get, before they get here.

I know. But once you find out you can sell a $200 PM11 for $700-$1000 in CA, believe me, the temptation will be pretty great that your friends will want to sell of a few to make some money.

I think it is the MAC Ingram M-11 that is listed in SB23, not the Ingram MAC.

RPB and SWD M-11s are also banned by name in SB23, which was why my initial post asked about MACs that weren't banned by name. I guess I could have typed out "Military Armament Co. M-10 and M-11 clones and similar pistols" but MAC was easier to type, and most people could figure out that I was refering to the M-10 and M-11 clones. People still call the OLL ARs, even if their model is S-15, STAG-15, STAR-15, or anything else.

Is there something else about these pistols that make them not fit your definition of "true", other than just the name? Are the parts compatible between them? If you had to repair one of these clones, could you get parts from an original MAC Ingram to work?

Guys, the "Macs" were banned in the Roberti-Roos list from 1989. Not SB23 which was passed in 2000.

I have a couple of Cobray M11-9's that I bought when I lived in Kali. Talk about trigger slap! I thinned my trigger and installed a trigger shoe. Then it was shootable. I guess I should have left them there with my son! Who want's to be my son this week?

Did you ever get a chance to compare them to other Mac clones?

The only MAC's I ever shot were my own. I built one as a rifle, with the upper from RPB and a buttstock made from a SMLE butt. I never really was impressed with them as a smooth weapon, but the cool factor was 10+ to me at the time. My first kit build was a M11-9. I still have some extra sides and center flats laying around somewhere.
