    PPT question

I've done many PPTs as both seller and buyer, but a seller has just proposed a new twist - he said he usually does "half the cash up front and the other half once the transaction is complete."
    Should alarms bells sound?
I usually pay in full discreetly in the store after I've inspected the gun outside in the parking lot, the paperwork is successfully completed and the gun in in the hands of the FFL.
Could something go sideways after the paperwork is complete and then I lose my money and the gun?
This is a transfer of an off-roster gun sold by an active duty person who has to bring in his orders to do the transfer.

    PPT question

    Different strokes for different folks.

But most people would get cash before they sign the DROS as seller.

Plus iTrader rating should help you have a picture of how the seller operates if they are on CG.

If you are denied would be the only risk? Are you selling and he is buying?

Paid and been paid before, paid and been paid in store, paid and been paid after...I usually try to deal with higher iTrader ratings, but then just trust your gut and make sure if you inspect in parking lot you're smart about it. I personally prefer to deal in store or after if I'm buying so I'm not walking up to a stranger who I know has a gun with large sums of money .

As the buyer I don't really see a problem with it, other than it being kind of strange. As a seller, theres no way I would ever do that. There really is no way to ensure the buyer in that arrangement will show up to pay the second half of the payment. Granted, he will have a copy of the dros with your info on it, so it's not like you'd be able to hide from him if you ripped him off. But still, unecessary risk on the sellers part. The seller gains nothing but added risk by doing this.

As someone else said, different strokes for different folks. If I was the buyer and the guy seemed normal, I'd do it provided I wasn't having to go too far out of my way to make the second payment. I had a buyer tell me he would buy a gun from me with the condition that I MUST accept a down payment right away on the gun, with the rest of it being delivered when we meet to do the DROS. I guess maybe he wanted to make sure I wasn't going to sell it to anyone else in the next 48 hours? It was fine by me..

                depends upon your comfort level.
all my buying and selling payments were done just before the dros begins or immediately after.

                      1. Seller might interpret 1/2 before starting dros and 1/2 upon finishing while both inside the store. (yeah different strokes different folks)

                      2. If Seller stating 1/2 after you pick up your gun . . . . lol that really dumb as its legally your gun now and what recourse can he have? and a competent FFL would only give out each's copy with only their personal info and NOT both.

PPT is a question of TRUST and TRUST.
                        - If you don't trust that guy then don't do business with him, f*ck him, there are lot of fish in the ocean, is his gun is the only one in the world liked Mona Lisa painting ?
                        - If he does not trust you then, f*ck him, tell him if he doesn't trust you then why sell the gun to you, do business someplace else.

I’d only accept payment plans from friends and family. Cash up front for me or find another buyer.

I think he's active duty and the gun was purchased in another state.

It's my understanding that he can sell it to me if he brings his orders to the FFL. I don't want to give him even half if there's an issue with the transfer going through.
