    1911 Quality vs Cost

Does anyone make a decently priced 1911 ($1,000-1,200) that works out of the box? It seems I'm constantly reading of someone buying a 1911 and then needing work done. I'm intrigued by the platform, but have a hard time with the notion of dropping a grand on something I know isn't going to work the way I want it.

I have 2 Spiringfield Armory Mil-Specs that work great. I've never had a single problem with either of them. They're a great gun to build off of or just keep them as they are.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

if going springfield look into their mil spec or loaded series. I know springfield gets bashed around a bit but i prefer them over others in the entry level price point.

I have a 15 year old TRP that i enjoy shooting haven't had any issues. Have over 10k rounds through it. Only things to be replaced were springs, sights when the night sights died and the sear and disconnector when i wore them out. Most people upgrade the trigger group to tool steel parts to prolong their life compared to the MIM parts that come with them.

+1 on the SA Loaded. If you can save up a couple bucks more go for the TRP. It'll be the only one you'll ever need...

If you go the Kimber route... Get different mags. Theirs SUCK. Actually crap mags are the main reason for issues with the 1911 platform.

Just get good Wilson or Chip McCormick mags.

And be prepared to buy more after your first one! [emoji16]

I have Colts 45 and 10mm and a Kimber 10mm. In that price range I was extremely impressed with the DW I looked at but didn't buy.

Used Ruger 1911s fit your price range. I have a "commander" size.

Here's one in the marketplace if you're in OC (no affiliation).

I don't think OP even has to save up more....I've seen a fair amount of TRP's come and go in the $1200 range.

                      Yep...

Loaded around 900ish, good used TRP .45 in the 1200ish.

The RIA full size 1911 for $400 worked just fine right out of the starting gate. So did the Colt standard 1911 for under 1k which also feeds SWC just fine even with surplus GI magazines. I think the days of having to get a new 1911 worked over by a gunsmith to function properly are long gone.

My Springfield mill spec out the box rocked. Nothing needed
I added a magwell and fiber sights later but that was my taste

I didn't think the TRP was on the roster.

By the way, what separates the TRP from the Loaded?
