Sig M17 Surplus

I thought the gummint said they won't sell military guns to the public after the M1 carbine and Garand.

They just sold a bunch of M1911 and M1911A1 pistols to the public. I got mine several weeks ago.

What's the deal? The Army decided it'd rather have M17s with black controls, hence surplus M17s with FDE controls.

Btw, I don't agree with the roster. Must be nice to have the skills to be a gunsmith and build all the guns you want.

The E-mail I got on them says that they are :
"an extremely limited number of authentic M17s originally issued by the U.S. Army and fielded during the initial domestic and in-theater deployment of the Modular Handgun System. These unique, one-of-a-kind firearms feature the original coyote controls, the original government-issue markings and serial numbers, along with the U.S. Army specified front and rear sights. As these were fielded by the U.S. Army their condition will vary, making each one uniquely different"

So definitely used guns.

Translation: these are beat to hell, some are only a mess, and others ready to be scrapped.

SIG they will have replaced any and all wear parts.

Luckily you can replace the grip frame for under 50 bucks. The typical holster rash won't matter.

For me, if I ever get my hands on an M17 Surplus, I’d keep it in the state it is in. After all, it is about the history isn’t it?

Get a Sig M17 Commemorative Edition if you want a spotless one.

Anybody know how many of these are being sold by Sig? My local shop called me this afternoon and told me mine was in. I'm going in the morning to pick it up.

I see a bunch on gunbroker have sold for $1300 to $1400. I haven't seen any numbers on how many are available.
