    Sig P238 HD

With Sig leaving the CA market in January I thought about getting a Sig P238 HD. If you have one or have shot one, please share your experience.

My EDC is a Ruger LCP, I also have a Glock 42 in .380, This would just be a buy before unavailable purchase.

    Thanks for sharing your opinion.

Easy shooter and concealment. I still have mine even though I don’t shoot it. .380 isn’t my first choice for CCW but she’s accurate and fun at the range.

For a huge company that just scored an entire military branch contract you would think the testing fee would be peanuts to them

Are you sure they are leaving? I think all the pistols have a 1/1/20 expiration date on the roster and all renew.

The 238 is a great CCW. Great for pocket carry or IWB. Wife has one too and fits fine in a fanny pack when she’s hiking.

IMHO, the LCP and Glock 42 fit the bill for your .380 needs. While it is a fine pistol, the 238 is a whole ‘nother Animal (SA, cocked and locked), and heavier than both the ones you have now. If you want to get one just for the sake of getting one, that’s one thing. But, I don’t think you have to panic buy one at this time.

Have one that has been pocket carried everyday for over 10 years. It is the pre-California model. Great large easy to see sights, a dream to shoot for a pocket pistol.

I also have two of the California models - downside is that they are a tad bit wider in the slide to accommodate the cocking indicator. Still nice pistols

                You will enjoy it!

P238 is my everyday CCW carry. It's strapped to me right now. Mine's not the HD though. There's no sense in carrying the extra weight but my Wife LOVES her HD. Some of the new .380 self defense rounds make it a good compact alternative to a 9mm IMHO. I carried a .40 M&P shield before the 238.

My wife has one for her ccw and quite frankly, I'm a little jealous. Shoots a lot better than it's small size would have you believe it would.

You can get the mag guts spring insert to add another round to the flush fit magazine.

They will most likely renew. This kind of scare happens every now and then.

I think the 2A Zone FFL called Sig and confirmed it was only a rumor. An early release catalog leaked that was incomplete and people panicked.

                            I enjoy my Sig

I have the P238 HD and I like it a lot. It's tiny...obviously...seems very reliable. There did seem to be a small break-in period initially; I was getting occasional stove pipes lock back failures in the beginning which do not happen anymore. I've read that others had a break-in period on theirs too. Truthfully, I suspect it was probably operator error in my case rather than the pistol--I had to learn to not ride the slide and the slide release and to position my hands properly. Now I never seem to have any problems.

It's a bit on the expensive side, as are the magazines, but that's kind of Sig.

Unlike most 380s, I shoot my P238 consistently and accurately because (probably) it fits my hand extremely well. I don't carry ... yet ... but it would definitely be my gun of choice.
