First off, which model B are you comparing to which Super?

If you're comparing the Second Model B to the Super B then you'd be right. If you're comparing the First Model B to the Super B then I'd take the Super B.

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

      Second.

So you don’t think there is any meaningful shooting difference?

No. Either one would make a good shooter. Unless you're exempt it might be easier to get a C&R Model B than a C&R Super B.

Not exempt. I started looking at the S 380 (which has the same choice for recoil operation) but I’ve been attracted to the B/BSuper as a budget “1911” in 9mm and avoiding the Roster restrictions.

I might end up with both.

They are all nice guns. Star's are greatly under rated. I shot a Firestar .40S&W this weekend. Sweet shooting pistol.
FYI I have 2 model S's, 380. Beautiful. Great pistols for beginners, or weak or arthritic joints, or just for plinking. Both needed extractor and ejector work. Not great out of the box. But a little tinkering, and they are very reliable.

I’m looking at the S as a very mild recoil Centerfire pistol to try to get my wife interested. I was thinking about a Bersa Forestorm, but the Star is locked breech and has a larger grip.

I have 2 Star SM Super .380s. Very nice, flat little pistols. I considered putting one on my CCW but got an LCP instead. I have only shot FMJ bullets through them but they have been 100% reliable. My son loved shooting one of them as his first centerfire pistol. He carried it a lot on various hunting trips. These have adjustable (small) rear sights.

For a long time almost every 1911 pattern gun you saw in the movies was a Star. If you watch The Wild Bunch closely you'll notice the external extractors. Worked better with blanks than the .45's.

The Star Model B emulates a 1911, but the trigger is very different from a 1911 trigger. The trigger on a Model B is hinged at the top. It is a very different feel from the 1911 trigger that slides rearward.

Having started with 1911's, the Model B trigger was just too foreign for me. My finger would rub on the trigger guard during the trigger press. I eventually sold the Model B.

If you don't already own a 1911, I guess it won't make any difference. A nickel plated Model B was good enough for Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction.

Warning: Graphic language and gratuitous violence.
