Best .22 conversion kit for a handgun?

So here's the deal, the gf wants to go shooting more with me and I can't justify spending $20 so she can carelessly waste 50 rounds downrange. Needless to say I'm in a quandary, piss off the girlfriend or piss off my wallet. That's where the .22 conversion kit comes into play...

    I have a: Glock 21
    Glock 31
    Sig 220
    S/A 1911

I don't really care which one of these I get the conversion kit for, but I am interested if anyone has had any experience with .22 conversion kits for some of these or all of these. I've read mixed reviews on pretty much all of these kits. Some say they jam, others they feed perfect, some say feed fine so long as you use proper ammo, etc. Any first hand input on which direction I should go would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I use a Kimber .22 Rimfire Target conversion kit on a TLE/RL II.

Excellent reliability with Kimber factory mags, swap out the recoil spring every 5K rounds, I use CCI mini-mag solids exclusively and it's been 100% reliable.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

If those are you only pistols, I'd get a Ruger Mk. III or Browning Buckmark instead of a conversion kit. More pistols to shoot at the range that way, and the gun wont cost much more than a kit (you'll be saving $$$ w/ .22lr anyways).

If you don't mind another pistol, I agree with BamBam: Most .22LR pistols costs as much as the kits except you'll have to pay the extra DROS free (and possibly sales tax).

If a kit is a must for you, then I recommend the following:
AdvantageArms kits for Glock and 1911 (they have both, check their site: www.advantagearms.com ). The problem with them is whether they have any in stock. I have one of their kits on my G19 and it has been reliable with CCI MiniMags and Remington Golden Bullets.

For SIG P220, SIG makes a factory conversion kit. You'll have to contact them about it.

One thing that you have to keep in mind is that conversion kits tend to be more finicky with which ammo to feed: they only like certain brands and not others while .22LR plinkers (like Ruger and Browning mainly), they can eat most brands.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I have an Advantage Arms LE .22 conversion kit for my Glock 17/22. It works great. The aluminum slide makes the gun feel very light, actually too light for some. I don't have any problems with my conversion as long as I use high velocity ammo. It eats up all of the cheap stuff, even the ammo NOT recommended by AA.

I also have an AA kit for my 1911's. Works very well.

I'll second that! I bought my MKIII so that my son could shoot it, and I ended up falling in love with it. I am a bit "anti"-Ruger, however, IMO, they make the best .22LR pistol , hands down! This one's similar to mine, except that mine is a Target model w/ bull barrel:http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firear...10123&return=Y

!!!! $200 conversions are the cost of another gun. go buy a ruger mark 22 (whatever number they are on), or mosquito or something that she can shoot.
and then you get another gun!!

I have a Kimber rimfire conversion that i sometimes slap on Kimber 1911s, works great

even though it says HV only, i've used subsonics with good luck

out of a total of 5k round, I've only had two problems, i failure to fully chamber, probably due to a bad bullet, the nose of a remington golden bullet, was all messed up, and one FTE with a subsonic round

The Ruger 22/45 has the same grip angle as a 1911, a gun for your girl and good practice for your 1911, what more could you ask for?

most 1911 conversion kits like the ciener is about 200 bucks. ruger mkiii's are hard to find these days and will cost you nearly double that price plus a ten day wait.

Stay away from Kimber kits. It's one big headache. Nothing works smoothly.
