Congrats OP on your HK purchase. Hope you enjoy it. Please give us a range report once you get her home.

I bought the HK Elite and Expert because I read so much great things about them but was disappointed with the way they feel in my hand and how accurately I can shoot them. Front and rear checkering on the grip is a little sharp. Grip is kind of big. A lot more recoil than my CZ 97B and 1911's. Needless to say, I ended up selling them. I have also tried a HK VP9 but because I already own a Walther PPQ, I didn't see the need or want to get a VP9.

The HK Elite and Expert has a match grade trigger. Don't know if that is the same thing as the LEM trigger but either way, the trigger was not as nice as my 1911's or CGW CZ's.

Funny you should mention that. I am actively looking for one, so if you see one please let me know!

I think it's a great idea if you're intending to carry the gun. For me, a long, light trigger pull with no safety is the bee's knees. All my HK's are LEM.

Now I need to find one to see for myself what the difference is.

the DA/SA trigger is pretty good. its nice to be able to be cocked and locked.
I would only do the Light LEM. not sure its really worth the conversion. Just pick up a P2000 LEM then you have a compact. or an SK. I only own these in the LEM as the DA/SA has no safety ( no cocked and locked option)
            I have Hk's with both
neither are as good as the VP9.
and the P7 trumps all triggers but some highly tuned race guns.

Congrats on a great pistol! Be careful, HK ownership is notoriously addictive and expensive. Its going to quickly turn into an alternative lifestyle.

Cessnapilot, word or warning Sir now that you are starting down the HK rabbit hole. What ever you do, don’t research, check out, handle, or God forbid, shoot one of these HK’s. It will put you into a quest where you can’t sleep, can’t eat, can’t even think about anything else until you get one.
                You’ve been warned.

I had HK USP Elite 45ACP, 4.5#-5# trigger weight out of the box. I went to HKpart.net and ordered :
                  - Firing Pin Block Spring, new style light .
                  - Light trigger return spring
                  - 10# hammer spring
                  - Enhanced Match Flat Sear Spring- Nickel plate
                  - A plier for installing the trigger return spring
Actually I just order whatever the HKpart.net recommend , for a total of $59.53.
And then I POLLISHED all of the moving parts that related to trigger pull weight.
I got a solid SA 3.5# trigger pull. (I don't care about DA so I don't measure the pull weight) I don't know how much for the LEM trigger cost but with 60 buck and couple hours do polishing parts to get a SA 3.5# pull weight, I am happy camper.

If you really want to experience the magic of LEM, add a match flat spring, light TRS, and the Gray Guns SRT. Such an awesome trigger made even better.

Although I enjoy doing business with HKPARTS.net, you can call HK CS directly and order the parts you need for a fraction of what other retailers are charging.

Is that a P7? My LGS is offering a P7K3 for sale for $11,500! Must be an extraordinary piece.

I've owned several HKs over the decades---all DA/SA except for my P2000SK 9mm with the "light LEM" trigger---for most shooting, I strongly prefer the DA/SA trigger system---for self-defense, especially for the wife, I find the LEM system just fine---she is an experienced shooter on many guns, but just doesn't "get" the DA/SA trigger system---with the LEM system along with her DAO trigger Kahr CW-9, she knows she can just pick-up the pistol and work the trigger in a high-stress situation---simple... So, all the SD pistols around the house are DAO---fine for both of us---no confusion...
Understand, as has been pointed out by several folks, HKs are addicting---expect to have more show up any time now...!

                            Wow congrats OP.

When you have an HK, you are assured of supreme quality. Below is a comparison of the recoil springs on my Glock 26 (above) versus my HK P2000SK (below) - these guns are supposed to be in "the same class." - But No, they are not:

HK's are designed and made of far greater quality and engineered parts, it's what sets HK apart from all the rest.

(I hope no Glock fans will complain, I have 5 Glocks, love them, but they are no HK).

As for the LEM. Just friendly advise you don't have to follow: Try to enjoy your HK as it is from the factory, maybe just some night sights. (I suppose this goes for most other brands. This is your first HK, learn baseline first).

The LEM, the HK match trigger, trigger jobs and trigger upgrades and all the fancy sh*t may be amusing, but at the end of the day, it's 95% about how much you mastered the platform that matters, and 5% for the fancy upgrades.

                            Good luck and enjoy

Thanks Guys! I appreciate it. I plan to put a thousand rounds through it first to get used to shooting it and to really get a feel for it before I modify anything on it for now. Out of the box it is pretty nice, just not used to the SA/DA type trigger yet, but with use I am sure I will get there.

Now as far as P7's go, is there anything to look out for on one?
