    Question about P320

So, I found an FDE P320 Compact .45ACP through a PPT, my only concern is whether or not it is compatible with the exchange kits (the modular kits that SIG makes to change the caliber).

I figured I would jump on this vice trying to do the Glock build that I was considering. But, there are like 5000 versions of the the P320, how do I know what is compatible with what? Are all of the P320s modular?

I apologize in advance if I have not provided enough information to make a determination, but knowing what questions to ask would help me out, too.

AFAIK, 9mm kits are not compatible, FCU is different.

I'd imagine a contract with Sig would be best. When I called them a few years back they weren't sure if the kits would convert from 9 to .45 and vice versa. But that was back in the days of SSE and it hadn't been out for very long

        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Maybe not. The SigSauer website morrcarr67 linked above says

The modular P320 allows you to select any of several centerfire calibers. Just disassemble the pistol and reassemble it with the X-Change Kit's barrel/slide assembly, grip module, and 12 round magazine. Not compatible with manual safety models of the P320. Not recommended for use with P320 pistols chambered in.45ACP.

I can’t even count the various ways Sig has screwed up P320 modularity. It is sort of a joke. I say this as a P320 owner.

So, that appears to be the subcompact model, this one I believe is the compact (carry?) Model.

I guess I should reach out to Sign, because yeah, if there's an issue with the .45 and conversion, then I guess I should hold off and wait for a 9mm or .40 to pop up somewhere.

You can definitely use 45 FCU in any conversion kit built for 320. I have a thread on this and reference a thread on SigTalk. Once I track it down, I will link it. I have shot many a box of 9mm through my 45 chassis.

If you want a full size conversion for your 45, AB Prototype used to sell full size kits, you would need to check their website. CDNN has some conversion parts, especially mags and grip modules.

So, looking into it a bit further, I came to similar findings (using Google and such) as Divehobo. I'm going to try to get this.

The biggest hurdle will be trying to find the conversion kits that don't come with "high capacity" magazines. Then again, I could just order the kits, have them delivered to out-of-state relatives, trade somebody out-of-state for gimped mags in exchange for the ones that came with the kit. Then either have them UPS ground the kits to me, or just go chill with family. The kits themselves aren't considered "firearms" right?

If it doesn't work, I now have an off-roster gun that I could probably make back what I got it for. It comes with 5 mags to boot.

You can use 45 FCU in any 9mm, 40 S&W or 357 Sig conversion kit. You can not go from 9mm to 45ACP, only down from larger caliber. Grip modules on lesser calibers have grooves inside magwell preventing 45 caliber mags from being inserted. Guessing Sig did not want anyone blowing gun up trying to squeeze 45 round through 9mm pipe.

If you remove the tab blocking the magazines and cut down the ejector on the 9mm FCU, you should be able to go up to 45 from 9mm right?

That's horse****. I'm shooting 9mm out of my 45 p320. No problem lol. Because there isn't a cutout for the larger 45 mags in the 9mm fcu. You can swap them into any frame.

Sig won't admit it, but you can go down compatible.

The .45 P320 is 100% compatible with all the exchange kits. That’s the reason I bought a .45 compact along with 9mm full size and compact kit. I also originally built my 80% as a .45 before making it into an M17 with manual safety.

While I wouldn’t recommend doing this on a factory Sig, you can go from 9mm to .45. You can do it one of two ways. Find a .45 safety takedown lever, or buy an extra safety takedown lever, and grind down the extra metal (Doing so could void your warranty )that prevents the larger .45 magazine from being inserted, which is what I did when I built my 80%.
