    That's a real annoyance.

When I bought my Kimber for ltc use I just dumped the OEM thumb ambi safety for a G.I. unit. Problem solved.

Ambi safeties are high speed advertising, but I notice most people don't practice ambi shooting.

I have the same problem with the 2011 I built. I ran 300 rounds reliably already, will address this after 500 rounds

Yeah, yeah, we all know about the thumb on top of safety hold.
But that doesn't work for everyone.

For me, on a single stack, thumb on top pulls my palm away from the grip safety, necessitating a bump type grip safety.

For me, on a double stack, the width of the frame prevents me from going thumb on top while still having a good grip on the gun.

The lower edge of my 1911 safeties are cut shorter on the bottom and beveled smooth at a long shallow angle.
They may not look pretty to some but they are functional for me.
My guns do not hurt me when I shoot them.

(OK, well, my S&W 642 with +P loads smacks my pinky finger hard, but that's another project to be attended to.)

I can't edit in PB right now but hopefully you can see the lower edge of the safety is ahead of the frame and beveled.
The underside of the frame tang are also not perfectly flat either.
I first made everything picture perfect square edged, but once the safety is depressed those square edges really bit the web of my hand and thumb.
Little by little all the parts were matched to provide a smooth surface when the safety is depressed, to hell with how it might look sitting at rest in a picture.
            No bite!

I have the same pistol and it is exactly like your. I feel what your talking about when i hold the gun but when i shoot i dont even notice it at all. Its actually nice to see the spec has not changed at all since 2014 (date of production) i can take a pic of mine and you could never tell the difference. Enjoy your Dan Wesson.

                  This is an interesting discussion.

My 1911 collection is several dozen Colt 1911's and one Norinco 1911.

Have never been impacted by a safety lever on any of them.

Is it because my thumb does not ride on top the safety or the luck of Colt construction on 1911's ranging from 1913 to 2016?

Lots of variable. Shape and size of hand, grip placement on gun, how much if any the thum safety rides over the line of the frame etc.
