EMP 9mm... not a great first outing.

I'm hoping it just needs to break in, but the first 100 rounds I put through the gun, I only made it through 3 magazines without some kind of issue... Failures to eject, stovepipes, failures to extract, chamber.

I've heard some of these have reliability issues, and that's a shame... because when it worked it shot VERY nicely... I thought the kick would be much worse.

Going to break it down this week, give it a good clean/lube, and run some more ammo through it... hopefully it'll start to play nicely.

I bought a EMP9 from a fellow calgunner--it had a bunch of rounds through it, so I assumed it would be all broken in.
I took it to a range and had multiple light primer strikes in my first 100 rounds of this new-to-me firearm. Apparently could be firing pin issues; although I haven't been to the range since.

1911 shorties can be finicky. My 45acp Kimber cdp ultra carry was.

After a good clean/lube preflight before shooting it you need to be ready to...

Try different mags/ammo
Have someone else try it.
Prepare to send it back with a note attached explaining what wrong.
...then...
Prepare to send it back 2-3 more times before it's right. (sending copies of the original note to send with it)

It's funny... I've purchased several firearms prior to this year, and never had to clean one before the first shot... just spray some lube in it, wipe it off, and go.

This year I've purchased several that really seem to need a careful takedown and lube job first... including two A300's that locked up damn near solidly the first time I dropped the bolt out-of-the-box, and a ruger PCC that was very unhappy for the first few magazines.

It's been a learning experience, that's for sure.

Send it back to Springfield. They will essentially "update" the CA model to the current "free state" specs in internal parts.

There are several documented cases of CA EMP's malfunctioning, but we know that they can't "update" because of the roster.

Most likely your extractor. I had the same issue with mine. Certain serial numbers had glued extractor instead of being pinned. Call Springfield and have them run your serial number. They replaced mine as well as polish the feed ramp. Had it back less than 2 weeks. They paid shipping both ways.

I had it for 2 years now after they fixed the issue and it's been running like a champ.

I live in Fullerton, if you want to meet up at the indoor range in Artesia I will bring mine. It runs like a top. 5 mags. We can try and figure out what is wrong

My 9 was a bit finicky the first 300 rounds or so, then smoothed right out. I was at the range today and put 200 rounds through both the 9mm and .40 without a hiccup. Both have had to go back to Springfield to have the ejector pinned though. Check to make sure your ejector is sitting flush with the frame.

Both of mine were terrible out of the box too. Make SACS fix it. Document the problems with pix and range records.

The EMP you bought used. Did he or she disclose with you any functioning issues? Any modifications? Either way, a lot of EMPs have issues (including mine). Good thing is you can send it back to Springfield and have them work on it. I've sent mine back and they worked out about 80% of the issues (I had every issue you can think of!).
While it's there, have them pin the ejector (they won't do it if you don't ask. Be it if yours is an earlier version). Good luck!
